NORTHEASTERN BATES COUNTY...

At 305 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Adrian, moving southeast at 45 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

Confirmed COVID-19 case

Vernon County Health Department has confirmed the 6th positive case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This case is a household contact to our 4th case, and has been under quarantine since that diagnosis on April 22, 2020.

This case is asymptomatic. Vernon County Health Dept staff has identified and contacted any individual that may have come in close contact with the case which may have put them at risk and will monitor them for any signs and symptoms of illness.

Individuals should continue to practice social distancing, clean/disinfect any high touched surfaces, wash their hands with soap and water routinely, use hand sanitizer if soap and water is not available and avoid touching your face (especially eyes, nose & mouth). It is up to each and every one of us to stop the spread of this disease!

As always, if you are having symptoms and feel you need to be evaluated, please call your primary care provider or local urgent care.

Bates County Sheriff's Office

On 5/13/2020, the Bates County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a disturbance at a residence on CR 5001 in rural Adrian. On arrival, Deputies were advised that Joshua W Diggs had a weapon and had threatened several people at the residence. Diggs was taken into custody without incident.

Diggs has been charged with Burglary in the 1st Degree, Endangering the welfare of a child, Unlawful use of a weapon and Domestic assault.

Diggs is currently being held in the Bates County Jail on $50,000 Cash or Surety Bond.

Reference:Missing Person Nicole Mallatt. We have receive many request from volunteers who are asking to help in the search efforts for Nicole Mallatt. We will be holding an information meeting for volunteer searchers in the west parking lot of the Bates County Sheriffs Office located at 6 West Fort Scott Butler Missouri. The information meeting will be held at 10:30 A.M. Following the meeting the volunteers will be taken to an area southwest of Butler to begin the search. Following the meeting with the volunteers and search teams, the Sheriff will address any media wishing to receive information and updates in reference to the search efforts.

Adrian: Santa and all his helpers hit Adrian Main Street yesterday afternoon. Santa led the parade and ended with Butler’s Masonic Lodge #254 Toys for Tykes handing out white teddy bears to all the children!! After the parade everyone was invited out to Frontier Village for hot chocolate, train ride, and a visit with Santa!!!
