Chief Whitehorn has returned from delivering a truck and trailer load of gifts to the Indian Tribes of northeast Oklahoma. He reports this was the biggest load yet, thanks to the generosity of Bates County residents.

12/03/2014

A truck and trailer full of blankets and other warm gifts are on their way to Native American reservations of Northeast Oklahoma, delivered by Chief Jack Whitehorn and David Nelson. Because of a winter weather forecast, the planned pickup took place today instead of the Dec. 4 date we advertised in the Xchanger. Our readers were extremely generous this year, and the rented trailer was full.

Do you like the music of the Beatles? Heartwarming stories with slightly quirky but lovable characters? We're pretty sure you'll enjoy the local theater scene tonight at Butler High, presented by some very talented young people at the Butler HS auditorium. "John Lennon and Me," a play by Cherie Bennett, follows the inner thoughts and outer struggles of a young girl with cystic fibrosis. Shows are Friday and Saturday, 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students. Pictured are "The Flunkies." –Staff photo.

A final headline for newsman C.A. Moore, who spent his life telling stories in Butler, Mo.

On Tuesday this week Eric Adler, a reporter from the Kansas City Star, spent a few hours in our office, followed by photographer Keith Myers on Wednesday. The story below ran on the front page of Thursday's issue of the Kansas City Star with the header, "Type set on veteran newsman's life."

C.A. never wanted the limelight, but his character, integrity and dedication drew many to esteem him highly. You'll read many personal accounts in this week's Xpress – on the front page, in the neighborhood news, the editorials and letters to the editor. It would have made him cringe a little, but we feel he deserved the praise, and more.

Clark A. Moore spent nearly 70 years in newspapers, first throwing Butler County’s dailies as a boy. His last job was a 30-year stint as editor/reporter/photographer of The News-Xpress. In effect, The News-Xpress and C.A. Moore are one.

Our editor followed up this week with Buhr's reaction - and the wave of response the Steinway project has received from afar.

Last weekend, Butler's square was packed with BBQ competitors, judges, vendors and Huckster's Day visitors. A member of Dunn Up BBQ (Lenexa, KS), pictured top, said, "This layout is perfect for this kind of competition. Towns like Butler are to be commended for sponsoring community events like this."
We particularly liked his last comment: "I'm also glad to see some smaller towns like Butler still having a newspaper."
Also pictured is the crew of Swine Flew 2 from Lee's Summit with their Cessna cooker.
