📜 A Public Notice from Lady Clementine of Choctaw
"Now Appearing on TikTok…"

Dearest readers,

After much fan-fluttering, thoughtful prayer, and one strong cup of sweet tea with extra lemon, I have made a most daring decision…

Lady Clementine has joined TikTok.
Yes, you heard right. TikTok.

It seems the Taw is simply too full of stories, sightings, and sideways glances to stay within the limits of parchment and post. Now, the tales you've whispered at the courthouse square or murmured in line at the Piggly Wiggly may just find themselves narrated—with lace-trimmed flair and righteous timing—for the world to see.

Expect voice, video, and very little restraint.

Do follow along, my darlings. It’s high time the gossip had a voice—and it shall be mine.

With powdered grace and a dash of boldness,

📜 A Letter from Lady Clementine:

“Red, White, and Ruckus”

Dearest Readers,

Before Lady Clementine was taken down most undaintily by a brief but stubborn summer ailment, she made a modest outing to one of our local general stores....that glorious little catch-all emporium where you can buy a roasting pan, fish bait, and an inspirational coffee mug all in the same breath.

It was while browsing the ladies’ department of our local small-town "Walmart", a place where one can purchase both diamond stud earrings and a shotgun, that Lady Clementine found herself accidentally privy to a tale so vivid, so dripping in holiday misadventure, that I nearly dropped the capri pants I was considering.

The conversation unfolded between two ladies near the clearance t-shirts and though I did not catch names (heavens, I wouldn’t dare), I caught every juicy detail.

It seems a certain gentleman, related to someone’s husband’s cousin’s stepbrotherdecided that nothing said “America” quite like a cooler of beer, a homemade slip-n-slide fashioned from painter’s plastic, and a box of discount fireworks purchased from a trailer shaped like a pirate ship.

According to the storyteller, the man in question lit a sparkler, ran full-speed toward the slip-n-slide (shirtless, of course), and belly-flopped with the enthusiasm of a man who’s never read a warning label in his life.

The result? A pulled muscle, scorched shorts, a singed eyebrow, and what she described as “a sound I can only compare to a wet ham hitting a church pew.”

She added, in the gravest of tones, “He’s still walkin’ funny and won’t make eye contact with fireworks—or potato salad.”

As I slipped away toward the housewares aisle with a genteel cough and my dignity intact, I couldn’t help but reflect:

It’s not the fireworks that make the Fourth in Choctaw County… it’s the stories that start with ‘Y’all watch this.’

So here’s to patriotic injuries, plastic fashion, and the quiet joys of pretending you’re not eavesdropping in Walmart.

Yours in polyester and pyrotechnic peril,

📜 A Letter from Lady Clementine:

“Recovery, Rudeness, and a Rumble at the Courthouse”

My Dearest and Most Diligent Readers,

Though I have spent the past few days in a state best described as frail but listening, I must first extend my sincerest apologies for the recent lull in correspondence. Lady Clementine may have been under the weather, but one should never mistake stillness for silence.

I may have been cloistered behind lace curtains and lemon tea, but rest assured, my ears were keen, and my sources as chatty as ever.

It appears that in my absence, the taw has been nothing short of fevered.

To begin: the peculiar rise of hateful social pages, aimed not at matters of policy or principle, but at individuals, many of whom are merely guilty of speaking a little louder or dressing a little brighter than some would prefer. Most disturbingly, one of these pages has directed its venom squarely at an actual child—a teenager, yes, but a child nonetheless. I daresay, anyone who finds pleasure in mocking a minor under the guise of "community commentary" ought to sit with their conscience—and perhaps a pastor. It seems some among us, armed with both Wi-Fi and wounded pride, have taken to building entire digital amphitheaters for the sole purpose of unkindness.

Lady Clementine adores a good story.....but one ought never confuse gossip with cruelty. One is an art. The other, a rot.

And then, naturally, we must address the latest round of public accusations tossed about like rice at a wedding. Facebook, it seems, has become less a forum and more a coliseum, complete with spectators, gladiators, and the occasional aunt who posts minion memes in the middle of the fray.

Meanwhile, quietly and with little fanfare, the ground was broken for our long-awaited county jail. The event, once thought mythical, did indeed take place, though the focus quickly shifted from the building to the photograph.

Who stood holding the shovels? Who should have been absent?

And above all… why, for some, does the location still sting like a poorly timed “bless your heart”?

Many have whispered that progress in Choctaw is much like our roads, slow, full of potholes, and attended only when election season rolls in like pollen.

Now, I did make a modest appearance in public this week—purely for health and hydration, and what did I behold but a most undignified scene on the steps of our courthouse: a gentleman, flushed with either anger or sun exposure, wagging his finger directly in the face of a lady.

I was on the verge of inserting myself (as a Lady does, when necessary) when another man intervened, diffusing the moment with a calm word and what I suspect was a clenched jaw.

To that brave soul: your manners did not go unnoticed.

And to the finger-wagger: I suggest redirecting your gestures toward a mirror.

I shall soon return with further accounts, for my notebook is brimming with tales—some whispered, others shouted, and a few scribbled down while pretending to check the price of melons.

Until then, I remain

Yours in recuperation and righteous observation,

📜 A Letter from Lady Clementine:

“Fireworks… of an Unexpected Variety”

Dearest Readers,

While many in Choctaw County turned their gaze heavenward this evening, dazzled by rockets’ red glare and the occasional Roman candle gone rogue, Lady Clementine’s eyes, as always, remained modestly lowered… and ever observant.

For though the sky sparkled, it was the shadows near the Piggly Wiggly parking lot that truly lit up my curiosity.

There, parked not-so-subtly beneath a flickering streetlight, were two vehicles nestled rather closely...closer than what I’d consider standard for grocery-going folk, mind you. And beside them, two figures, equally snug, sharing what appeared to be more than just conversation.

I won’t speculate on the nature of their entanglement (though heavens, I will heavily imply), but it was clear these weren’t just strangers discussing cantaloupe specials.

One might call it a rendezvous. Others might call it a red flag with tail lights.

And while I believe in romance as much as the next lady, I must gently caution:

Where there are fireworks on the ground, darlings, there's always the risk of a fire, especially if one of those involved happens to be… how shall I say… previously committed?

Of course, it could be entirely innocent. They could be distant cousins reunited after years apart. Or they could be exchanging casserole recipes. Or praying. Loudly. With shoulder touches.

But if you happened to be at the fireworks show and your sweetheart disappeared for a spell around 8:47 p.m., I suggest you inquire gently. Perhaps with a raised brow and a bottle rocket in hand.

And as for me, I shall continue my observations from a safe, ladylike distance.

Happy Independence Day, my sweets. And to those playing with fire? Mind your matchsticks.

Ever watchful,
— Lady Clementine of Choctaw

📜 A Letter from Lady Clementine:

“The Hole Truth (and Nothing But)”

Dearest Readers,

It is with a most heavy bonnet and rattled suspension that I pen today’s letter. One need not travel far in our fair county to encounter a most unexpected adventure, namely, the sort that begins as a simple drive and ends in needing a front-end alignment, new shocks, and prayer.

The roads, my darlings, are wretched.

One could be forgiven for thinking a battlefield once stretched across County Road 6 East, what with the great chasm now claiming the shoulder and part of the pavement. 'Tis not a pothole, mind you. No, no. A pothole would be a kindness. This is more of a miniature canyon, complete with orange cones likely borrowed from 1983 and tape that may have once held up someone's prom decoration.

Naturally, the citizens have voiced their concern. Loudly. Repeatedly. And sometimes in all caps.

But alas, it seems the ears of the Commissioners are tuned only to frequencies broadcast during election season.

One could wager that should a commissioner’s cousin’s second husband so much as look at a crumbling shoulder, it’d be repaved with gold flake and ribboned off before sunset. But the rest of us? We’re left playing real-life Oregon Trail, hoping our wagons don’t tip while we try to fetch milk and bread.

One particularly sharp-tongued resident posted about the pit of despair with photographs, bless her. It takes great courage to stand up to such geological negligence. She warned of the danger plainly: “I guess y’all waitin’ for someone to get killed.”

And knowing our county? That might just be what it takes.

Until then, do hold tight to your steering wheels and your patience. Avoid County Road 6 unless you’re equipped with four-wheel drive and a tetanus shot. And perhaps, just perhaps, ask yourself this:

If your name ain’t on the ballot or your kinfolk ain’t on the land… will your road ever be fixed at all?

Yours in muddy ditches, shaken nerves, and thinly veiled sarcasm,

📜 A Letter from Lady Clementine:

“On Drama, and Those Who Live in It Like a Second Home”

Dearest Readers,

As you well know, Lady Clementine is quite fond of gossip. I cherish it, collect it, and arrange it neatly in my mind like a proper set of heirloom china. A whispered word here, a sidelong glance there. it all delights me to no end.

However… I must confess, with a lace-gloved hand over my heart:

Some of you are concerning me.

Truly, my dears, while a little drama is a fine seasoning in the stew of life, there are individuals among us who seem to be simmering in a full-blown soap opera broth.

One cannot help but notice that if every single event in your life includes betrayal, tears, shouting, and a dramatic Facebook status… you may not be the victim....you may be the playwright.

I write this not to scold, but to gently inquire:

Have you, perchance, tried not being in a scandal this week?

It is perfectly possible, I assure you. I myself went nearly three days without hearing my name whispered in a Dollar General aisle, and I must say, it was peaceful. Eerie, but peaceful.

If your friendships rotate more than church committee leadership…
If every cousin you speak to is “dead to you until further notice”…
If you refer to your life as “a movie” but it’s mostly car fights and cryptic subtweets…

…perhaps, just perhaps, it is time to look inward. Or take a nap. Or both.

Now, don’t fret! I still want to hear the details. Please do continue to confide in Lady Clementine (purely for documentation purposes, of course). But do consider a little peace and quiet now and then. Even the juiciest storyline requires a slow episode to build tension.

Life doesn’t always have to be a plot twist. Sometimes it’s just biscuits and good choices.

Yours in gentle concern and theatrical restraint,

📜 A Letter from Lady Clementine:

“A Man, A Mystery, and A Stunning Lack of Trousers”

Dearest Readers,

I had fully intended to spend this week’s column musing on the charms of summer shade, or perhaps the benefits of minding one’s business at the Piggly Wiggly.

And yet, how can one focus on such pleasantries when the taw is abuzz with talk of a gentleman seen in, how shall we say this gently?....a remarkable state of undress near the four-way stop?

According to those few (but forever changed) individuals who were present, the man in question strode across the road with the confidence of a Roman statue and not a stitch to his name. Not even a sock. Not even a regret.

Now, some say he was a local, a familiar face fallen on curious times.
Others insist he was a stranger, perhaps merely passing through and passing judgment on trousers as a concept.

But one cannot help but wonder: Are they truly unsure of who he was… or simply offering him the mercy of anonymity, for the sake of what’s left of his reputation?

As of this writing, no formal identification has been made, though speculation runs as wild as his gallivanting. Some say he was fleeing a dare, others whisper of a lost bet, and at least one person who shall remain unnamed suggested he may have been sleepwalking....

Through town.

My stars.

While the mystery remains, let it be known: decorum is alive and well in Choctaw County, though perhaps running just a step behind on this particular occasion.

Should any further garments or answers surface, you shall be the first to know. Until then, let us all remember to look both ways… and perhaps keep a spare pair of slacks in the car.

Yours in dignity, disbelief, and averted gazes,
— Lady Clementine of Choctaw

📜 Letter from Lady Clementine:

“Glory Be, We've Got a Firework”

Dearest Readers,

I write to you today with the most delightful of updates: after a thorough search of every bulletin board, Facebook thread, and whisper in the produce aisle, I have at last uncovered something spark-worthy for our Independence celebrations.

No, the courthouse will not be hosting a parade of majestic proportions, and no, I’ve yet to see a single firework setup in the works behind anyone’s barn.

But fret not, for Butler First Assembly has risen to the occasion with patriotic aplomb and a blessed abundance of grilled meats and buttercream frosting.

On Sunday, July 6th at 6 p.m., the good folks at the church will open their arms and their fellowship hall for an evening of celebration fit for saints and sinners alike.

There will be hamburgers and hot dogs, prepared by capable hands (the kind that know better than to burn the buns), and a fireworks show at dark that promises to light up the sky and, one hopes, not startle anyone’s livestock.

But the crown jewel of the evening?

The Cake Auction.

A sacred tradition in these parts, where sugar meets strategy and Sister Stacie’s cakes achieve near-mythical status. Word has it her Caramel cake has sparked more bidding wars than a bass boat at a divorce auction.

And bless their hearts—the cake auction is not just for glory and glucose. Proceeds will benefit the kids ministry fundraiser for BGMC (which, for the uninitiated, is a most noble mission involving children, learning, and more than a few neon crafts).

But do bring a full wallet, dears. Last year, one gentleman bid a sum so generous he had to call the bank from the church parking lot—and I’m told he still didn’t get the lemon pound cake.

So if you’ve been longing for fireworks, fellowship, and perhaps a little frosting-induced rivalry, your moment has come. Let it never be said that Choctaw let a holiday go by unbothered.

I shall see if I can make it to such a joyous affair—I'll be observing from a shaded seat of course, fanning gently, and eyeing Sister Stacie’s caramel layer with reverence and restraint.

Yours in sugar, smoke, and Sunday salvation,
— Lady Clementine of Choctaw
