Well what a time for a discussion.
Was this the right call to go behind the tax paying voters to please one person?
đźš© RED FLAG IN TRIGG COUNTY: Democracy or Dictatorship?
Christian County, take a look at what’s happening just across the line in Trigg County. If you think political gatekeeping doesn't affect us, think again.
The Hopkinsville League of Women Voters—an organization known for providing a neutral, non-partisan stage for all candidates—offered to host a forum for Trigg County. They don't have a League chapter of their own, so our local ladies stepped up to help voters get informed.
The result? A total shutdown.
• The Mandate: GOP Chair John T. Oliver sent a letter "respectfully recommending" (read: directing) all Republican candidates to skip the forum.
• The Pivot: Instead of answering tough questions from the public, they were told to attend a party picnic to "speak with one voice."
• The Lockdown: Not only did candidates start dropping out, but the Chair reportedly ensured the venue (Trigg County High) became "unavailable" for the event.
Why This Matters to Us:
When party leadership decides where and how candidates are allowed to speak, the voters lose. A picnic is a pep rally; a forum is a job interview. Voters deserve to see candidates off-script, answering questions they didn't write themselves.
Transparency shouldn't stop at the county line. When politicians hide behind party picnics and block public buildings from being used for civic discourse, it’s a slap in the face to every taxpayer.
Is this the kind of "unity" we want in Western Kentucky? Or is it just a way to keep voters in the dark?
