Sophie, Countess of Wessex has been tested for the coronavirus after she landed in South Sudan to carry out a royal tour on behalf of the Queen.
Her Majesty’s daughter-in-law, who is married to the monarch’s youngest son Prince Edward, landed in the North African country earlier this week & was met with a thermometer to check whether she had any symptoms of the worldwide virus. ‘Very pleased to welcome HRH The Countess of Wessex to South Sudan today, to support Women’s participation & efforts to prevent & address gender based violence,’ wrote Her Majesty’s Ambassador to South Sudan Chris Trott on his Twitter feed.

8 March 1702
King William III died
◼ William died of pneumonia at Kensington Palace, due to a complication from a broken collarbone following a fall from his horse, Sorrel. The horse had been confiscated from Sir John Fenwick, one of the Jacobites who had conspired against William. Because his horse had stumbled into a mole's burrow, many Jacobites toasted "the little gentleman in the black velvet waistcoat". William was buried in Westminster Abbey alongside his wife. His sister-in-law, Anne, became queen regnant of England, Scotland & Ireland.
William's death brought an end to the Dutch House of Orange.
👑 William III (born 4 November 1650) also widely known as William of Orange, was sovereign Prince of Orange from birth, Stadtholder of Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht, Gelderland & Overijssel in the Dutch Republic from 1672 & King of England, Ireland & Scotland from 1689 until his death in 1702. It is a coincidence that his regnal number (III) was the same for both Orange & England. As King of Scotland, he is known as William II. He is sometimes informally known in Northern Ireland & Scotland as "King Billy"

Windsor Castle is a royal residence at Windsor in the English county of Berkshire. It is notable for its long association with the English & later British royal family & for its architecture.
🏰 The original castle was built in the 11th century after the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror.
Since the time of Henry I, it has been used by the reigning monarch & is the longest-occupied palace in Europe.
◼ The castle's lavish early 19th-century State Apartments were described by early 20th century art historian Hugh Roberts as "a superb & unrivalled sequence of rooms widely regarded as the finest & most complete expression of later Georgian taste".
◼ Inside the castle walls is the 15th-century St George's Chapel, considered by the historian John Martin Robinson to be "one of the supreme achievements of English Perpendicular Gothic" design.

◼ Originally designed to protect Norman dominance around the outskirts of London & oversee a strategically important part of the River Thames, Windsor Castle was built as a motte-and-bailey, with three wards surrounding a central mound.
◼ Gradually replaced with stone fortifications, the castle withstood a prolonged siege during the First Barons' War at the start of the 13th century. Henry III built a luxurious royal palace within the castle during the middle of the century, & Edward III went further, rebuilding the palace to make an even grander set of buildings in what would become "the most expensive secular building project of the entire Middle Ages in England".
◼ Edward's core design lasted through the Tudor period, during which Henry VIII & Elizabeth I made increasing use of the castle as a royal court & centre for diplomatic entertainment.
