Bismillah.
Slipping on this thobe today felt like reconnecting with a part of me I’ve been missing. It’s been a long road—but boxing guided me back to my deen. Pushing toward my highest self required real sacrifice: no more drinking, no more smoking. That discipline lifted something heavy off my soul. My salat feels deeper now, and the shahada I once took hits different today.

I’m far from perfect. No Muslim is. But Islam is. So if you ever catch me slipping, don’t judge—guide me. Correct me with care. I’m still growing, still figuring out how to balance the spotlight with surrendering in private to Allah.

Each session in the gym feels like a mental wudu. I leave lighter. Sharper. More grounded. And all of it—every bit—is only possible through Allah’s mercy.

When I got out of prison, I was starting over with nothing but a pair of work boots and a hunger to change my life. My first job paid $14 an hour—hardly enough to keep the lights on, but it was honest. I was done with the streets, done with that so-called “lifestyle” that only leads to dead ends or caskets.

I put my head down and worked. Day after day, I learned the trade. I studied late nights, sacrificed weekends, and kept pushing until I earned my journeyman license—if you’re a plumber, you know that test will humble anybody.

I never cared about being the toughest, the hardest, or the biggest gangster. That was never the goal. What mattered to me was creating real opportunities—for my people, for the friends I left behind in the streets, for anyone who needed a second chance.

Because at the end of the day, that’s what real strength looks like: building something that lasts and bringing others with you.
