“Andrés Miguel Cervantes is a Western desperado whose journeys through the Sonoran and Mojave deserts and up the coast are at the crux of his latest album. Songs for the Seance sounds like Hermanos Gutierrez backing Sturgill Simpson, and this is rarified air for a Bay Area artist.

Recorded on eight-track tape, sinister guitar, omnipresent pedal steel and twangy violin, garnished with harmonica, guide Cervantes’ rugged baritone staccato. “I saw the devil’s eyes in me,” the Oaklander laments on the title track, pleading to marauding spirits that he’s passionately trying to harness. It’s one of many wonderfully constructed tunes on an album that reveals Cervantes’ gifts as an essential emerging storyteller. — Adrian Spinelli”

Hey fans and friends! This Friday 11/14 is RELEASE DAY 🎸⚔️🎸 for “On This Day” the new Tony Molina record!!!

Out as a split with Slumberland Records, Speakeasy Studios and Tony’s new label Olde Fade, we are stoked to be mailing out the preorders!
I only have about 15 copies left of the vinyl with bonus flexi up on the Speakeasy Studios website! Link in the bio! There are more on Tony’s Bandcamp, Slumberland, and stores, but I am almost out!

We also have CD’s with sick jewel cases up on the website. 💿🎶💿🎶

The album was recorded here at the studio with the help of our friends and bandmates SK, Rachel, Steve O and Gary Olson. So stoked and can’t wait to share the album!

Our Show of the Week is a spooky record release party, where Andres Miguel Cervantes will be celebrating his new record, Songs For The Seance this Sunday, November 2nd, at the Ivy Room in Albany.

Andrés Miguel Cervantes is a folk/country singer-songwriter and a finger-picking guitar player who is known for his western noir desert soundscapes. His lyrics and songcraft are distinctly his own, with beautiful, haunting images of landscapes both internal and external delivered with his virtuosic folk guitar finger-picking style. His songs are suffused with a dreamlike atmosphere and performed with a unique vocal range.

His latest album, Songs For The Seance, is a meditation on the collection of memories that live inside all of us, whether they are experienced, dreamed, or inherited from our ancestors. It touches on themes of identity, the need for belonging, loss, isolation, and hope.

Like his debut album, The Crossing, Songs For the Seance is out now on Speakeasy Studios SF.

Opening the show is one of our favorite Bay Area country artists, Noelle and the Deserters. We’ve written about them extensively around these parts, but suffice to say they’re a perfect opener for the evening.

Add in Andy Cabic on the decks, better known for his work in the band Vetiver, and you’ve got an amazing lineup.

This show celebrates the release of an appropriately spooky record for this time of year from one of the best finger picking guitarists in the Bay in Andrés Miguel Cervantes, surrounded by his musically rich community, and that’s why this is White Crate’s Show of the Week.

“Songs for the Seance” is a beautiful reflection on collective and ancestral memory, inherited and lived experience, in our families, with our loved ones.

Drawing on process with its own element of surprise and unknown, “Songs For The Seance’ was recorded in the same fashion as Cervantes’ debut album “The Crossing”: Reel to reel liquid 1/2” tape on the Otari 8 track. 👁️ Tube condenser mic for all the vocals and acoustic guitar finger pickin 👁️ Spring coil reverb using the old ways of metal and electro mechanical vibrations to capture songs and stories that speak to the soul and the realms we exist in. Night skies, memories of love and family….masterfully crafted songs that combine Cervantes uniquely poetic storytelling with vocals and fingerpicking that tear at your soul yet invoke a sense of hope, that feeling beauty or experiencing beauty is a form of survival.
We share these songs with you on another liquid form, vinyl! How warm, how full spectrum. ✨
