Per county spokesperson: "Mike has announced his retirement after nearly 30 years of county service to spend more time with his family." Powers is in the second year of a five-year contract that pays him $329,000 a year.
The blame, as a recent Harvard Business Review article reports, is because “the U.S. education system is not held accountable for ensuring that students are properly equipped with the skills and capabilities to prepare for a career where they can obtain financial stability.”
