Just a Girl in Camas

Just a Girl in Camas Bringing you local stories and local news about local people. Well, alright, I’ll admit it. I’m a local. And yep, I said it when I was little.

Born and raised in Vancouver, WA and both of my parents are native Camasonians. That I would never live in Camas. And here I am, some thirty years later, living in Camas, raising my family, enjoying my community and loving every minute of it. I love the town, the schools, the community and I love, love, love the people. So when I was pondering what direction my life was veering now that both of my

kids are in school all day, I discovered I was really passionate about my community. You know, the place where you spend most of your time. The place within a 10 mile radius that you shop, drive, visit and run errands of every sort. The place where we are all living right now doing our best on our journey to either raise a family, enjoy retirement or just enjoying the ride of life. Along with my passion for my community is my passion for talking to people, getting to know them and hear their stories. As I’m learning in life everyone has a story. All these stories help me see things differently, teach me new things, enlighten me and help me to become a better person. I’m hoping that by sharing positive stories from our community it will in turn show you an angle you might not have looked from, teach you something you didn’t know and enlighten and put a new spin on things. I’m following a dream of mine by starting this project and maybe it will inspire you to follow a dream as well. My dream is to get out in my community, report on businesses making a go of it out there, people making a difference, and just some good Camas news. Please take time to check out some of my interviews. There are always more to come and I look forward to sharing this great community of Camas with you! Let’s go Vancouver! City of Camas

The public will soon have access to a forested tract of land at the old Hewlett-Packard campus in east Vancouver.

Yesterday while I was enjoying a coffee at I met a woman named Shelley! She was having fun reminiscing about when her great grandma, Alice Crippen, lived in the house in the late 90’s. She remembers playing pool in the basement! It’s fun to think of the families that used to live in these older homes in Camas.♥️ Happy Monday!

Lemonade stands! I used to set them up, my kids did and now I cruise by and see kids out there on a hot summer day working their lemonade stand and I love it! Just waiting for that car driving by to stop! Today I picked up some ginger snaps, Rice Krispie treats and a delicious cup of lemonade!😋 This stand is on the corner of Pacific Rim and Nahcotta street! Go support some local kids! 💛🍋🍪

As some of you may have seen, I have been doing some posts as my big birthday creeps closer and closer. Today for my 43 days out I’m going to chat about gray hair! This hair so many women try to cover, cover, hide, highlight and keep the same color we had in our younger years. What do you think of this? For years I have gone back and forth pondering the hours I spend coloring my hair. Lamenting over this laborious process. And I’m still not sure what I want to do. I want to feel good. I want to not be viewed “older.” Why do we do this to women? It’s heart breaking really. And men, well they just look sexy with that gray coming in. Sigh. So I’m going into my 50’s still coloring my hair. Not sure when I will let it go. It’s coming. I want to be free. I want to embrace my hair for the beauty and natural color it is and not let society or old school thinking keep me locked in this cycle. 🙌

Happy 🌎 day! The Earth gives us so much and so easily humans can take it away. What a gift this last year has been to enjoy the beauty of different parts of the Earth. I was so grateful to see the stunning coast of Portugal to the cherry blossoms in Japan. This Earth has so much to offer to us. Even in my hometown of Camas the Earth shines bright. I encourage you to not only celebrate today, post pictures, be appreciative BUT to get involved. Attend a council meeting in your area and speak up for green spaces and trees. If you are local here in Camas join the Camas Ivy League. Look into the Camas Earth Day Society. Get involved. Don’t count on others to do it. We all must be participants and stewards of this beautiful Earth.💚💙

Been in a little weird space since the New Year. Lots of change, the world in a place I’ve never experienced before and looking for some light and love out there. I worked a flight to Newark this weekend and spent the day in the Hoboken neighborhood. And I had the best day. Humanity was shining bright and I was soaking it up. So many people saying hi, helping hold a door, kids and babies laughing and snoozing snuggled up against their mama, lots of people walking their dogs, the sun was out and I felt my heart filling up. Like literally could feel it fill with faith and happiness that there is so much good and love and light out there. We have to see it. We have to be it. We have to be a part of it. I have to. I cannot let the news, people’s hate, the negative creep in and take over. I can’t. Turn the tv and social media off for a bit. Look around today and find the light. Be the light to those around you. Together we can shine. Happy Monday. Some fun, random pics from my weekend. Sending my love out to you.♥️
