We're back every Wednesday beginning August 4, 2021 running 8pm to 11pm. WXCS Open Mic & Jam Session kicked off in 2010 at The Villa in Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. It ran continuously for 9+ years only to be derailed by a global pandemic. Sam Reese and Frank Bercik have played host to this weekly event since the beginning. Countless musicians, both local and from all over the nation, have participated whether it be as a solo singer/songwriter or as an instrumentalist jamming either with the house musicians or bringing in their own bands. We are back and it's time to jam on!

WXCS is up and running. Our antennae was repaired and we are transmitting locally. Tune in to 92.9fm in and around Cambridge Springs and Edinboro. We have about a 15 mile radius where our signal reaches and it's clearer than ever!! Many, many thanks to the guys at Northwestern Rural Electric that came in with a bucket tracker and the team that operated it and the technician that went up in the bucket and hooked up the wire that had deteriorated over the years. They were so professional and really knew what they were doing. So lucky to have them in our neighborhood!! Also a big thank you to Rick Pogson, the radio technician who put all the right wires together.

Danielle Mitchell Memorial Poker Run

Yesterday was a beautiful day 🌞. Lots of folks were out for a ride or drive. We got out our sign for the end of our driveway. Had to alter it a bit to say Fun run instead of Poker run. Just made a temporary fix so it can easily be changed back to poker next year!

The featured artist this week at WXCS 92.9 FM is Michael Braunfeld. The name of his latest album release is "Driver". Michael Braunfeld is, first and foremost, a storyteller. His songs capture the everyday triumphs and struggles of ordinary people. He has a dynamic guitar style, trading off between percussive strumming and intricate finger picking melodies. Michael's performances combine a powerful guitar style with a seemingly endless supply of urgency. And he has a pretty sneaky sense of humor too. All the songs were written by Michael Braunfeld. "Driver" will be aired at 12noon and 11pm on Monday March 9, Wednesday March 11, and Friday March 13 on WXCS 92.9 FM. For online listening go to wxcs.org.

The featured artist of the week is Rich Mahan. The album is called "Hot Chicken Wisdom". Rich Mahan doesn't mess around. On Hot Chicken Wisdom, this Nashville-based guitar slinger and his all- supporting cast spin forward at full throttle, never allowing any undue sentiment to stand in the way. The result is a kick-butt collection of songs that celebrate the joys of life and advantages of living life to the fullest, expectations and propriety be damned. In essence, the song titles tell it all. Indeed, selections such as "Boots Off," "Day Drinking", "I Smoke Pot," and "Stoned as a Roman Slave," leave little doubt as to their subjects or sensibilities.
For the most part, the songs are steered by an exceedingly funky groove, a slow sprawl or simply an easy saunter.
WXCS will be playing this album in its entirety at 12noon and 11pm on Monday March 2, Wednesday March 4, and Friday March 6. For online listening, go to wxcs.org.

Our featured artist this week at WXCS 92.9FM is The Get Ahead. The Get Ahead is a 5 piece group from Portland, OR that has evolved from retro-soul evangelism to a more mature and distinct identity. The name of this album is called "Deepest Light" and has bold musical statements on the celebration of life, healing and the importance of keeping open hearts. "Deepest Light" represents an amalgam of American Roots music and features the bands invigorating three part harmonies and moving lyricism. We will be playing this album in its entirety at 12noon and 11pm on Monday Feb 24, Wednesday Feb 26, and Friday Feb 28. Listen online at wxcs.org
