High-tech gets you lost. Low- and no-tech keeps you found.

Map. Compass. Terrain. Those are the skills that work when nothing digital does — the ability to shoot an azimuth, recognize terrain on the map and on the ground, and navigate between points with no signal and no battery.

The Master Navigator™ course is where you build that capability. No shortcuts, no GPS dependency.

A 20-pound bag cannot carry everything you need for a three-day movement. It's not supposed to.

The bag is light because the system carries what the bag doesn't. Pre-positioned caches every two days along the route mean the bag only needs to get you to the next resupply — not all the way to the destination.

Custom PVC tube. Buried 8 to 12 inches. Both ends removable for annual service. Dig on a poncho, carry the excess dirt out, replace the vegetation plug. The ground should look untouched when you leave.

The bag is a resource. The system is what makes it work.

Navigation is a perishable skill — and you don't lose it slowly.

You lose it the moment you need it and realize you've been depending on something you don't actually own.

Many of these students came into the Master Navigator™ course not knowing how to shoot an azimuth. They left navigating independently to a point on unfamiliar terrain. That's not confidence — that's a demonstrable ability they didn't have before. That is why this is my most popular course.

Slide through — this could be you.

GPS taught a generation of people that navigation means looking at your phone.

That's not navigation. That's location awareness — and it fails the moment signal drops, the battery dies, or you step somewhere satellites don't cover well.

Real navigation is knowing what the ground between here and there looks like before you step on it. Terrain features. Elevation change. Water. Obstacles. That information is in a topo map — but only if you were taught to read terrain, not just roads.

Slide through — can you name all 5 Major Terrain Features and recognize them on a map?

They died in service to this country.

Not wounded. Not retired. Not home.

Memorial Day is not about veterans. It is not about service. It is about the ones who gave everything and never came back.

Say their names. Remember what they gave. Gone but not forgotten. Their sacrifice can never be repaid.

This material will hold a spark longer than anything else you can carry.

Charred punk wood — properly prepared — catches a spark, holds it as a glowing coal, and gives you time to work. You are not racing the ember. It is patient. That is the point.

From there, the bird's nest does the job. The charred punk wood goes in the center. You fold the tinder bundle around it — tight enough to hold heat, loose enough to breathe. Then one slow, steady exhale at a time, you build the glow into a flame.

Very few things more satisfying than this.

No rabbits were harmed in the making of these knots.

I teach two baseline knots. Not because the other forty don't exist — because understanding how these two are the foundation for at least 13 others allows me to teach you 15 total in an hour, and for you to actually learn these knots at a deeply fundamental level, not with cute little stories about rabbits coming out of holes and around trees that only apply to two or three.

Here are a couple of examples from an end of the line bowline. The running bowline turns that loop knot into a hitch. The toggled running bowline variation gives you the same thing with a quick-release, for those of you who speak tactical.

It's never just one knot. It's many from two baselines, including these three. The GB2 Knot Progression™ is built around this principle — depth over breadth.
