INITIAL PUBLIC NOTICE
VERDE LAKES FLOOD CONTROL & MITIGATION
YAVAPAI COUNTY, ARIZONA
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) intends to provide federal financial assistance under the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) Program to the Town of Camp Verde in Yavapai County, Arizona, to complete geotechnical analysis and field studies to support the design of roadway and storm drainage improvements along Verde Lakes Drive to mitigate impacts from flooding. Pursuant to Executive Order 11990 (Wetlands Management) and FEMA’s implementing regulations at Title 44 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 9, FEMA hereby provides interested parties with a notice of its intent to carry out an action affecting a wetland.
The purpose of the proposed action is to reduce flood hazards along Verde Lakes Drive. The proposed action consists of scoping activities and excavating five geotechnical test pits with a rubber-tired backhoe to evaluate subsurface conditions within the project area. Each test pit would be dug to a depth of approximately 10 feet, with an estimated length of 12 feet and a width of 3 feet. One of the test pits would be near West Clear Creek, and work would be conducted within the dry portion of the creek. The test pits would be restored to their original condition, with the excavated soils placed back into the test pits and the grade re-established once complete.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Wetlands Inventory map shows riverine habitat and freshwater forested/shrub wetland within the project area.
Additional information about FEMA’s proposed action, including maps showing the potential impacts on wetlands, may be obtained by writing the FEMA Region 9 Environmental Officer at FEMA, 1111 Broadway, Suite 1200, Oakland, California 94607, or [email protected]. All requests should be received within 15 days after publication of this notice.
