Have you listened to this week’s podcast yet? 👀🎙️ Fair warning: this one might get you swearing. 🤬

Medicare cuts don’t just affect doctors. They can affect your access to care, too.

I’m joined by board-certified dermatologist and physician advocate Dr. Sandy Marchese Johnson to break down proposed Medicare changes, declining physician reimbursement, rising practice costs and changes to Modifier 25.

For patients, that could mean more appointments, more travel, more time away from work and potential delays in care.

We also talk about why independent practices may be especially impacted and why physician advocacy matters.

Because when you cut Medicare reimbursement, you may also be cutting access, convenience and continuity of care.

We listen better with snacks. 😬

Medical reps sometimes bring refreshments when they visit the office, but they’re really there to keep us updated on what’s new in dermatology.

That can mean new medications, treatments, research, patient savings programs and samples. 💊

They bring the updates (and occasionally the snacks). We bring the medical training and clinical judgment to decide what’s actually right for our patients.

Skincare Q&A time! 🧴✨ How many of these have you wondered?

Can you actually shrink your pores? Can “natural” products still irritate your skin? Do you really need to exfoliate every day? Does oily skin need moisturizer? And are expensive products always better?

There’s a LOT of skincare advice out there, so make sure yours comes from a qualified professional.

As a board-certified dermatologist, I’m answering some of the most common skincare questions and separating fact from fiction.

Ever wonder if cacti are as prickly as they look? 🌵 They are!

I was recently in Arizona to speak at a Phoenix Dermatologic Society meeting, and after seeing plenty of cacti up close, I thought I’d share a few dermatologist tips for what to do if you have an unfortunate run-in.

👉 Don’t rub the area. This can push tiny spines deeper into the skin.
👉 Carefully remove visible, superficial spines with clean tweezers.
👉 Gently wash the area with soap and water afterward.
👉 Don’t keep digging if a spine is deeply embedded.
👉 Watch for increasing redness, swelling, pain, drainage or a persistent bump, which could signal inflammation, retained plant material or infection.

🌵 Some cacti also have tiny, barbed spines called glochids that can be especially difficult to see and remove.

If the area continues to bother you, worsens or you think a spine may still be embedded, have a healthcare professional take a look.

Medicare cuts don’t just affect doctors. They can affect your access to care, too. ✂️🩺

In the NEW episode of my podcast that dropped TODAY, I’m joined by board-certified dermatologist and physician advocate Dr. Sandy Marchese Johnson to break down proposed Medicare changes and what they could mean for physicians AND patients.

We’re talking declining physician reimbursement, rising practice costs and proposed changes to Modifier 25 that could make it harder to evaluate a concern and perform a procedure during the same appointment.

For patients, that could mean more appointments, more travel, more time away from work and potential delays in care.

We also discuss why independent practices may be especially impacted, who has a voice in how medical services are valued and why physician advocacy matters.

Because when you cut Medicare reimbursement, you may also be cutting access, convenience and continuity of care.

The big event of summer! 🌸✨ Floral garden party style. 💐

Celebrating Scott Drew’s 65th birthday AND his daughter Delaney’s engagement to Spencer made for one very special night. 💕🥂

Friends, family and colleagues all gathered together to celebrate what matters most in life—love, friendship and being surrounded by incredible people. It was truly a magical evening!

Between work travel, recording podcasts and getting ahead before even more travel coming up, it’s been a busy season. But I’m soaking up these last days of summer because they mean my FAVORITE season is almost here… FALL! 🍂

What’s your favorite season? Summer, fall, winter or spring?

Have you checked out this week’s podcast yet? 🎙️✨

I’m joined by board-certified dermatologist and clinical trials leader Dr. Graham Litchman of Vivida Dermatology to talk about hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and the growing role of biologics in treatment.

We break down what biologics actually are, how they target inflammation, and the three FDA-approved biologics currently used for HS. We also talk about how these newer options compare with more traditional treatments and why switching medications can sometimes make a difference.

Plus, we tackle common questions about side effects and infection risk, what dermatologists consider when choosing a treatment, and why treating HS earlier may help prevent progression, tunnels, and permanent scarring. We even look at what could be coming next in HS treatment. 👀

Not sure when to make a dermatology appointment? 📅 Here’s your scheduling cheat sheet:

📅 Full-body skin exam: once a year—or as often as recommended.
🔎 New, changing, itching or bleeding spot: don’t wait for your annual visit.
☀️ History of skin cancer or atypical moles: you may need more frequent checks.
🗓️ Routine visit: book ahead! Dermatology schedules can fill up quickly.

When in doubt, get it on the calendar. 😉

Skin cancer doesn’t always look suspicious. That’s why trained eyes matter. 🔎

Regular skin checks with a board-certified dermatologist are an important part of protecting your skin. We’re trained to examine your skin from head to toe and recognize subtle changes or suspicious spots that may be easy to overlook on your own.

You should absolutely keep an eye on your skin between visits, too. Know your spots and pay attention to anything new, changing, bleeding, itching or not healing—but self-checks aren’t a replacement for a professional exam.

Early detection matters. When skin cancer is caught early, it’s often much easier to treat, so don’t wait until something “looks bad” to have it checked.

Your skin is your body’s largest organ. Make regular professional skin checks part of taking care of it!
