Christians dont have enemies, we have neighbors. This is the most misunderstood teaching of Jesus coming out of Matthew 5. Because the call to love our enemies is actually a call to see them as neighbors instead.

There are some themes that have been showing up in comments we have received over the past couple weeks. These themes contrasted with what we find in Scripture show that just like we have talked about with the false Jesus of American Christianity, the gospel of American Christianity is just as false and harmful.

The comments appeal to logic and reason, but the gospel is foolishness

The comments point to enemies, the gospel points to neighbors.

The comments appeal to survival, but discipleship is sacrifice.

The comments appeal to stewardship, but Christ calls us to give everything.

The comments appeal to patriotism, but our Kingdom is not of this world.

The Christian culture of America has a false gospel just as much as a false Jesus. To counter this we must truly model and live out the True gospel in everything we do, say, and even type.

The ways of Jesus are better, even when it doesn’t make sense to those around us…
