Trying something new with your horse doesn’t have to mean mastering a bold challenge. You don’t need to jump a six-foot fence—just take a slow walk in the woods, explore a new trail, or even spend quiet time hand grazing. The point isn’t what you do, but that you’re doing it together. Stepping out of your usual routine builds trust, strengthens your bond, and keeps things fresh for both of you. Just try—your horse will appreciate the time, and you might discover something special along the way. 🥰🐴

The flies were thick, the air sour with fear. Rusted panels hemmed him in on all sides, and the gelding—once proud, once fast—stood quietly in the kill pen his coat dulled by dust and despair. Around him, hooves shifted nervously. The smell of sweat and resignation clung to everything.
He didn’t know how he got here and shuddered thinking of the auction only hours before. Loud uncaring voices, sharp jabs when he didn't move quickly enough. Now, this crowded pen.
Then deep inside, a flicker of memories stirred. The wind lifting his mane, the press of soft hands brushing his coat, the gentle tug of reins that asked, not demanded. A little girl's voice so full of trust whispering secrets into his ear. He remembered carrots in pockets and songs sung off-key. He wanted that again. Not this place of endings.
A truck rumbled outside. Boots crunched upon gravel. The horses shuffled around him. A woman stopped at his pen. She looked at him—really looked. Not at his ribs, or his age, or his scars. But at him.
She didn’t speak. She just reached out a hand. Hesitant, he stepped forward.
The gate creaked open.
And just like that, he was led away from the crowded pen to a small trailer. Encouraged by her careful touch, he stepped inside and sighed.
Ahead was grass, sun, a stall with fresh shavings. A child’s laughter. A name spoken gently.
He wasn’t lost.
He was going home. 🌸

Beloved police horse Henry officially hung up his horseshoes this week, retiring from the Allegheny County patrol after 18 years of loyal service. The day was even declared “Henry the Police Horse Day”—though Henry seemed far more interested in the box of donut holes (because let’s be honest, some stereotypes are delicious).
At 26 years old and 1,800 pounds, this towering Belgian left a big impression—literally. He was famous not just for his size, but for his clever trick of opening stall doors… then letting all his buddies out too.
Henry patrolled the Pittsburgh area with pride and is now heading off to green pastures. He’ll spend his well-earned retirement at Round Hill Park, a 1,000-acre county-owned community space (complete with a working farm), where he’ll be reunited with fellow retired officer Brando. A hero, a donut lover, and a master escape artist—happy trails, Henry! 🥰

With hugs, head-pats, dog treats, a few Dunkin’ doughnut holes, and more than a few tears, much-beloved Allegheny County police horse Henry retired...

In the soft light of dawn, a band of Alberta Mountain Horses moves quietly across the landscape, a rare moment of calm in lives shaped by survival. These feral horses, now numbering around 1,450, are descendants of once-domesticated horses set free over the last 200 years. They roam the foothills east of the Canadian Rockies, navigating harsh weather, rugged terrain, and predators like wolves and bears. Their world is unforgiving—only a small percentage of foals make it through their first year. But in still moments like this, their quiet strength and the wild beauty of their existence are something to be deeply appreciated. 🥰

In 2022, the White family set out on a cross-country journey inspired by their pioneer ancestors. Their mission? To give their two teenage sons a hands-on, boys-to-men lesson by letting them manage the entire trip.
Their adventure began in California and was set to conclude this week with a symbolic ride into the Atlantic Ocean. But one final hurdle stood in the way: the town of Holden Beach, North Carolina.
Town officials denied the family’s request to ride their horses through town, citing a local ordinance that prohibits horses within town limits. Officials noted that with more advance notice, an exception might have been possible, but the short turnaround made it unworkable. The White family claims they reached out a week earlier, though their request apparently wasn’t routed to the appropriate authorities.
The town offered to transport the family to the beach, but the Whites declined. Instead, they left their horses at a nearby farm and finished their journey on foot, walking to the water and stepping into the ocean in their boots. They also plan to ride through a neighboring town (horses welcome) so the horses can step into the surf.
What do you think, WARHorses?
Was the town right to uphold the ordinance, or should they have made a last-minute exception?
Let us know what you think in the comments.
