Bringing Marion LIVE to an end:
When I started Marion LIVE nine months ago, the idea was simple: highlight the live entertainment, food, arts, and culture scene of Marion County. Launch it, do the work myself, build it the right way, and eventually open it up to volunteers who could help with stories, interviews, photography, video, social media, website updates, and everything else it takes to keep something like this going.
The vision was always bigger than event listings. The goal was to go out into the community, sit down face to face with people, tell real feature stories, take photos, create video, and help document the people and places shaping Marion County’s culture scene.
That full vision never really had the chance to ignite.
It's not because people don't care. They do very much. But in today’s economy, many people in our community are already stretched thin. They are working full-time jobs, part-time jobs, side gigs, raising families, managing bills, and trying to keep the lights on. For many, volunteering for one more thing simply is not possible.
At the same time, Marion County’s culture scene has grown, shifted, and expanded in big and small ways over these past nine months. That is a good thing. But the workload has grown with it.
I am no longer able to keep up with it alone.
Marion LIVE has become a full-time responsibility, and it also costs money to run. I do not take money from this. In fact, I have put money into it. I have worked hard to find volunteers and major sponsors, but at this point, I am out of moves.
As many of you know, I am also a contributing writer for Downtown Marion, Inc. Some of the work and energy behind Marion LIVE will now move into that space, specifically to help bring more attention to the live elements of downtown Marion. This is not really a merger. It is more of a shift in direction and a way to keep part of the mission alive through an established organization already doing important work.
I am grateful for everyone who read, shared, followed, encouraged, messaged, sent events, trusted me with a story, or believed in what Marion LIVE was trying to become.
Marion LIVE may be ending, but the work of telling local stories is not.
