In this clip from our 2026 Barkley Marathons recap, Mathieu Blanchard reflects on his first encounter with the race - learning the books alongside veterans, venturing out solo on Loop 3 as confidence builds, watching the elements dismantle that confidence just as quickly, and discovering a culture of camaraderie unlike anything else in sport.

There’s no other way to say it - we’ve got a rowdy edition of the Long Run Archives on deck.

Brett and Jeff hop on the mics to discuss: Arlen Glick’s departure from Craft, whether mental toughness is overstated (and that physical fitness predominantly wins races), the idea of “super-domestiques” in ultra, Ben Dhiman vs the Boulder Boys, and ongoing media narratives around 200-mile specialists.

A new chapter for a Utah classic.

We’re honored to share that Singletrack is now the owner and race director of the Antelope Island Buffalo Run — a race that has meant so much to the Salt Lake trail running community for the past two decades.

For 20 years, Jim Skaggs () built this event into something special. His care, consistency, and love for the community shaped the Buffalo Run into the event so many of us shared together over the years running, crewing, and cheering at. We’re deeply grateful for the trust he’s placed in us to carry it forward.

đź“… Mark your calendars:

The 2026 Antelope Island Buffalo Run will take place on March 28, 2026.

Our goal is simple: honor the race’s history while thoughtfully building its future. Same island. Same spirit. A few new ideas - all rooted in respect for what’s come before.

has been on an absolute heater this 2026 season, wrapping it up with a wild come-from-behind win at UTCT this past weekend (cue the fireworks at the 8:55 mark of the race livestream).

A few days later, we were in the middle of recording another Long Run Archives episode when he just casually wandered in for a chat. We were completely blindsided—but ridiculously stoked to the max about it.

Here he is, proudly waving the flag for the imperial measurement system while gets him to relive the final 5 km to the finish.

🗣️ Jim on Talent vs Hard Work in Ultra

Jim Walmsley returns to the Singletrack Podcast for a wide-ranging conversation. We walk down memory lane for races like the 2015 Gobi 50K, reflect on the recent World Trail Championships, dig into his latest insights from Western States and UTMB, riff on his idea for a “Black Shorts Series,” and explore his training theories for success in the constantly evolving world of ultra-trail running.

“I’m obsessed with endurance sports. That’s what I want to do with my life.”

What a whirlwind year for Will Murray.

He took 2nd and earned a Golden Ticket at the Black Canyon 100K…only to miss Western States after a heart scare and an ankle injury. Then came redemption - a dominant, course-record win at the Javelina Jundred.

We sat down for a long-form conversation that goes way beyond the race recap. Will opens up about narrowly missing his college XC team by 10 seconds, falling in love with cycling, discovering ultrarunning, balancing high performance with a full-time teaching job, and now, facing the uncertainty of a cross-country move - and a potential leap into the pro ranks.

THE FINISHER

Last March, in one of the most dramatic moments in ultrarunning history, Jasmin Paris achieved the impossible — becoming the first woman to finish the Barkley Marathons. With just 1 minute and 39 seconds remaining on the clock, she touched the iconic yellow gate at 59:58:21.

For decades, athletes, media, and fans debated whether such a feat was possible — an enduring question in the world of ultra-trail running.

"The Finisher" chronicles Jasmin Paris’ three-year journey to that historic finish, featuring insights from Barkley legends like Lazarus Lake, Jared Campbell, Courtney Dauwalter, Amelia Boone, and Beverley Anderson-Abbs.

The full film premieres on the Singletrack YouTube channel Thursday (3/20)!
