This bone necklace has been around the world with me.

I carved it in New Zealand back in 2002 under the guidance of a local Māori craftsman known as “The Bone Dude.”

What impressed me most wasn’t just his skill—it was the fact that he created such beautiful work with only one arm.

Even with two arms, I found the process challenging and quickly realized how much patience and talent it required. I’m grateful he took the time to teach me.

For more than 20 years now, this necklace has been with me on every trip I’ve taken. It’s become a reminder that some of the most meaningful souvenirs aren’t things you buy—they’re experiences, lessons, and the people who leave a lasting impression on your life.

24 years later, it still reminds me of adventure.

🏡 Twin Nest Cottage | Exuma, Bahamas

When our standby travel plans unexpectedly changed, we found Twin Nest Cottage on Airbnb just hours before arriving in Exuma—and it ended up being exactly what we needed.

This isn't a luxury resort, and it probably isn't for travelers looking for a high-end, resort-style experience. But for budget-conscious travelers, solo adventurers, or couples looking for a safe, comfortable, and affordable place to stay, it was a great fit.

The cottage had the basic necessities we needed, including a small kitchen that helped us save money by preparing some of our own meals instead of eating out for every breakfast and lunch.

One of the biggest conveniences was having access to a rental car right on site, making it easy to explore the island and beach hop around Exuma without the hassle of arranging transportation elsewhere.

Most of all, we appreciated the hospitality. Our host, Chrissy, graciously accommodated us on very short notice, and she even arranged for her friend Melissa to pick us up at the airport with only a few hours' notice. That level of service and kindness made a stressful travel day much easier.

If you're looking for a comfortable place to sleep, a great location to explore Exuma, and a host who genuinely cares about her guests, Twin Nest Cottage is worth considering.
