I copied and pasted my podiatrist letter to my rheumatologist. Hopefully, it will help to give a better understanding of what’s going on with my left foot now😕😕

Re: Rheumatology Clearance and Timing Recommendations for Staged Surgical Management

Patient: Star L Newell
7/29/1981

We are evaluating our mutual patient, for management of a painful nonunion at a prior foot fusion site. Given her rheumatologic history and current treatment regimen, we would appreciate your recommendations regarding perioperative management and timing of a planned staged surgical approach.

Our initial concern is the possibility of an underlying bone infection contributing to the nonunion. Therefore, the first stage of treatment is planned as follows: "Removal of orthopedic hardware, bone biopsy with application of antibiotic spacer, left foot, planned as a staged procedure."

The goal of this initial procedure is to obtain cultures to determine whether infection is present. If infection is identified, treatment will proceed accordingly with referral to ID for extended course of antibiotics prior to revision. If the bone biopsy and cultures are negative and there is no evidence of active infection, we anticipate proceeding with a second-stage procedure involving revision of the fusion site.

We would appreciate your guidance regarding:
• Any perioperative recommendations for management of the patient's rheumatologic medications, including biologics, DMARDs, corticosteroids, or other immunosuppressive therapies.
• Whether there are any rheumatologic concerns that would affect wound healing, infection risk, or surgical recovery.
• Your recommendations regarding timing of the initial procedure in relation to the patient's medication schedule.
• Assuming the biopsy and cultures are negative for infection, when you would feel it is appropriate from a rheumatologic standpoint to proceed with revision of the arthrodesis surgery.

Thank you for your assistance in coordinating this patient's care. Please feel free to contact our office at ********** if additional information is needed.

Sincerely,
Preston Jensen, DPM

Images 1-4 are from the CT-Scan of my left foot. The last two are X-ray images.

The fusion of my left big toe did not heal correctly. Another surgery will be scheduled. However, the first thing I’ll be getting done is a bone biopsy. My podiatrist wants to remove two or three sections of bone from my left foot and send them out to pathology. He wants to check to see if I have any type of bacterial infection that has contributed to the improper healing process of my left foot. If the bone biopsy comes back positive for infection I will begin the process of taking antibiotics for an estimated six week period. If I am in the clear as far as not having any bacterial infection…..The next step will be to schedule corrective surgery

Earlier this evening my clumsy self tripped over the sidewalk and fell down hard on the sidewalk. The left side of my face and head hit that sidewalk first. Next was my left knee and it immediately formed a big bubble like bruise. My head and the left side of my face hurt more than anything else. I also have been feeling very pukey 🤮 nauseous. I’m guessing it’s because of a concussion.

We shall see

For those of you who were not aware, I wear hearing aids. My hearing aids have Bluetooth capability and just like everything else out there….an app to use with them. The app is designed to run self diagnostic tests on them, check battery life, and many other things.

One of the important features of this app is that it will send out an alert text to the person listed to receive notifications if and when I fall down. Thrive is the name of the app. So last night I tripped and fell down on my left knee. I was more embarrassed than anything. I would think that my phone would’ve been going off repeatedly “ Alert, Alert “ My son Thomas Yohe is the lucky recipient 😁😂

Nope. That dang thing will be going off right away if I have my hearing aids in the case and sit the dang case down 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Today was my first experience with having my shoulder aspirated. I’ve had both of my knees aspirated more times than I care to count. I have a pretty good tolerance for pain. I’m second guessing myself after today’s visit at the hospital.

Let me get to the point here…..NO COMPARISON between the two different joints ( knee& shoulder)😞😫😣😠😡

It hurt so much. I felt myself suddenly getting really hot and sweaty. My mouth became very dry and I seriously felt like I was going to either faint or vomit.

As the report states below….No fluid was found

Last week, I had an appointment with my rheumatologist. He explained that, since it has been a few years since I had any X-rays of my hands, he would like to order them now. I am curious myself to see how my right hand looks on the inside in comparison to how it looked before surgery. He also ordered bloodwork, including Sedimentation Rate and C-Reactive Protein, which are both tests that check for inflammation in the body. The results of my hand X-rays are rather confusing to me. I have read over the results numerous times, and it seems like the doctor who read my X-rays is indicating that I have had both of my hands operated on. I wish I had the actual images to go along with the written results.

I hope all of the women had a wonderful and blessed Mother’s Day 💝
