Most of the time we do not set spacers or pins, we dam up the whole perimeter with spray foam and pour enough for it to find its level.

Most common mistake I see when pouring leveler is not pouring enough. You shouldn’t have to work the material around. Just break the tension between pours and for the most part the material will level itself out because that’s what liquid does on a flat earth.
