Theo’s exam today went “beautifully” according to his doctor! He is pleased with his progress: the large tumor is responding well to the chemo, and the three smaller tumors have regressed and are no longer a concern. The large tumor is still going to be difficult, but he is very optimistic that we will be able to treat it.

Thank you for your prayers and love. We are so grateful for a good report. Please continue to pray that his tummy handles the IV chemo well today and tomorrow. We are so proud of our little fighter!

Hi Everyone,

First off, thank you to everyone who is following along with Theo’s journey and covering our family in prayer. Your kindness and generosity have left us humbled, and your prayers are felt - as the Holy Spirit has been our comforter and ever-present help on both the good and bad days.

Unfortunately, yesterday was one of those aforementioned not-so-great days. During Theo’s exam under anesthesia at CHOA, his ophthalmologist identified that the pre-existing tumor in his right eye grew significantly alongside the development of three new small tumors (two in his left eye, one additional in his right).

This was obviously not the news we wanted to hear, as the goal of Theo’s first two rounds of chemo was to shrink the size of the initial tumor to minimize any blind spots that the next phase of his treatment, laser therapy, might incur as a side effect. Due to the significant growth of the pre-existing tumor, his medical team opted to go ahead and begin laser therapy on all tumors in both eyes alongside chemo directly injected into the area surrounding the large tumor in his right eye. While this is not the timing we hoped for, it is not necessarily bad news, as his ophthalmologist is highly confident that beginning laser treatment now will limit the growth of the existing tumors any further, and hopefully begin to remove them. We were able to return home yesterday afternoon and look forward to a few normal weeks before his next round of treatment begins on February 23.

With that said, please join us in praying for the following needs:
* The large tumor in his right eye will begin to shrink and die
* The smaller tumors found at this most recent appointment will not reoccur
* That Theo will miraculously not have blind spots where laser treatment occurs
* His side-effects from chemo will be minimal and he will continue to grow
* For the Holy Spirit to bolster our faith when it falters

I have recently begun many prayers by saying, “Lord, we thank you that you are still good even on bad days.” And in reality, I think I am coming to believe that His goodness can be most evidently felt on the days it is least obviously seen. His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor. 12:9) and I am convinced that is because He sits down next to us in our sorrow and then offers His nail scarred hands to lift us up again. Despite the struggles facing our sweet boy, I am reminded that our Savior’s hands which were nailed to the cross are the same ones that formed Theo in Abbey’s womb (Psalm 139:13-14) and hold the entire fabric of the universe together (Col. 1:17). Regardless of what we face next, it is reassuring to know that He holds our son and is with us.

Theo is on his way home!
He handled everything like a champ, including a rough night on his little tummy. We are headed home with some extra medicine, ready to have lots of rest & cuddles over the next few days as his body recovers.

We are back at CHOA today & tomorrow for round two of chemo.

Theo is a growing little guy, measuring 13.72 lbs & 23 inches. His labs and vitals all look great as well! We should get an update on the tumor on Monday, but in the meantime we ask for continued prayers for Theo’s body to handle the chemo well and for no new tumor development.

Thank you for all of the love, prayers, and support for our family. 🤍

We are home from round one of chemo!

Theo finished his second day of chemo yesterday afternoon and we were discharged and sent home shortly after. Although his first 2.5 weeks of life have not looked at all like we would’ve expected, we are grateful to have one round of treatment behind us. Mama is also selfishly very happy to be home in time for Theo’s first Christmas.

Assuming little man stays healthy, we should not have another visit to CHOA until late January for round 2 of chemo. In the meantime, please join us in praying for:
- Theo’s body to respond well to the chemo. For him to be side-effect free and keep eating well, gaining weight, and sleeping without any discomfort.
- The chemo to shrink the tumor so small that the laser would be able to knock it out in January. One of Theo’s doctors mentioned a possibility that his treatment plan could be as few as 3 months if the tumor shrinks quickly and no new ones pop up.
- Strength, peace, and comfort for mom, dad, and the family. We are thankful for a few weeks at home to finally enjoy the newborn stage and establish new normal.

Thank you for loving us well in this difficult time. I had a moment of overwhelming gratitude yesterday when our social worker asked who our support system was. Although the initial answer was our close family, the hundreds of messages and comments we’ve received flooded through my mind. It is such a gift to be surrounded both near and far by so many who believe in the power of prayer and are fighting alongside us for our son’s healing.

We’ve never been more confident of the big plans that God has for our family, and watching our son be so resilient and unphased by this experience is humbling and comforting.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas celebrating the birth of our savior.

Update from Team Teddy (12.22.2025)

Hi everyone! We wanted to share an update on our brave boy.

Theo returned to CHOA today to have his central line placed and to officially begin his first round of chemotherapy. While most children with Retinoblastoma (RB) receive an internal port, Theo is still so tiny that his team opted for a central line instead. For the duration of his treatment, he’ll have a small tube exiting near his right shoulder to help deliver his medicine safely.

Our little guy has handled everything like a total champ! He woke up from his procedure breathing perfectly on his own and, so far, hasn’t shown any ill effects from the chemo. Because of his age, we are staying overnight for extra monitoring, but we’re hopeful that we can transition to outpatient care starting next month.

Theo’s stay is being made a little brighter thanks to some fun gifts from UGA—which definitely earned a huge smile from his NaNa!

How to pray for Theo:
As he begins this journey, please pray that the tumor in his right retina responds quickly to the chemo and begins to shrink. Please also join us in praying that no new tumors form.
