How a 3D blueprint saved our client an $80,000 fuel bill. 🚢💵
For our recent project with Margaritaville at Sea, our window on the water was razor-thin. We had exactly 30 minutes to capture both ships together.
Going even a single minute over would force the Islander to fire up an additional generator to make its next port on time. The cost? An extra $80,000 in fuel.
To eliminate the risk of guessing, we built the entire environment in Blender first.
Using port satellite imagery and ship schematics for perfect physical scaling, we mapped out our entire shoot sequence. We sat down with both ship captains, who confirmed they could safely maintain a parallel course 600 feet apart, allowing us to lock that exact spacing and real-world solar data into our 3D workspace.
By testing our camera arcs and lens compression digitally, we knew exactly where the camera needed to be every single second.
