I've been reading a lot about Gloria Steinem since she recently passed away, and I just learned that the premiere issue of her Ms. magazine in 1972 was Wonder Woman themed, just like Mag Pie's debut in 2018 was. I had no idea, but learning this pleased me. I like that we had founding our own magazines in common. Rest in power, Ms. Gloria, you were a wonder and a fighter for all women. ♀️✊🏻💖

Very exciting news! Daniel Umemezie, a high school student from Cedar Falls, was the 2025 Cedar Valley Youth Poet Laureate, and I published his poem "When Mud Softens" in the last issue of Mag Pie. He went on to win the Midwest regional YPL competition, then this weekend, he went to nationals in Omaha. I was pleased to hear Mag Pie listed in his bio being read from the stage. I am so excited to share that he WON the national competition! 🎉 Daniel Umemezie is the 2026 Youth Poet Laureate of the United States! Great things come from the Cedar Valley!

Ugh, just got auto-billed for my Mag Pie website, and the price doubled without warning. I remember when I first started in 2018, it was $71 for a year. Even if I don't make any more issues, I want my archive to still exist online, but this is ridiculous. I just paid through the nose for two more years, so I hope someone reads it. 🫠

I had to get a new shipment of Mag Pie buttons because I'll be tabling at the event on the 25th. This is my third button order. Can you believe I've already given away 700 of them? 😀

Okay, I'm really showing my age by using the word "s**e" but I'm too old to care! 😆 Some things have come up that will delay the release of Mag Pie's fall issue by a couple weeks, so look for it to go live by Monday, November 17th. The good news is that now there's no rush to get your submissions in by today's deadline after all! 😅 Email them to [email protected] by November 1st for inclusion in the HOLIDAY issue!
