Hi everyone, we're in the final stretch, as the campaign to fund Final Girl Rising ends this Thursday! To give you a taste of what it's like to play the game, and to show off the Final Girl Moves, we had the chance to run a single-player session with Jeff Stormer of the Party of One Podcast. If you'd like to hear what we got up to, click the link below.

Good morning everyone! Today we're going to dive into the mechanics of Final Girl Rising and explain why Powered by the Apocalypse is the best system for this game. First, if you don't have previous experience with PbtA, let me explain a little about how the system works.

PbtA is a 2d6 system. This means you roll two six-sided dice when you want your character to do something. Based on the result, 2-6, 7-9 or 10+, your character has varying levels of success. A 2-6 result means that your character doesn't succeed at their task, but is introduced to a consequence that deepens play. A 7-9 means your character succeeds, but not without complications. Finally, a 10+ means your character not only succeeds, but often receives a bonus of some sort for doing so.

Your character has something called Stats, that can be added or subtracted to each roll, depending on what your character is good, or not-so-good, at. Your character also has something called Moves, which are abilities they can use to interact with the game world in specific ways. When you make a roll, you use a Move combined with a Stat, and where your result falls on the scale of success tells you what happens next.

Each character has access to a group of Basic Moves, actions anyone can use, and Playbook Moves, which can only be used by characters with a specific Playbook, or archetype. Playbooks are a fundamental part of Powered by the Apocalypse, and the system is at its strongest when it embraces archetypal characters. Since slasher horror leans hard into tropes that are common for the genre, PbtA is the perfect system for this flavor of game.

Let's use the Wallflower Playbook and the Playbook Move, "Portend Certain Doom," as an example. This Move requires the player to roll with the Stat called "Flight," and Wallflowers have an automatic +1 to all Moves rolled with Flight.

The player rolls a 6 but, because her Flight is +7, the total result is 7. This means the player succeeds, but with complications, and the Playbook tells them what comes next: "What you predict comes true, for better or worse, and you gain 1 Tenacity."

Tomorrow, I'll go into more detail about Tenacity and other conditions a character can receive when playing Final Girl Rising. For now, though, thank you once again for the support, and please continue to spread the word about Final Girl Rising. We couldn't make this game without you!

Good morning! We thought we'd round out the weekend with our final contributor spotlight for Final Girl Rising!

Ryan Omega of Geek Public has worked with some of the top names in tabletop roleplaying game streaming, and is the host and producer of Taskmaster LA, a tribute to the live stage show based on the original UK series.

I had the good fortune of meeting Ryan when he hosted a live play of my ghost-roommate comedy larp, Dead Reckoning. Ryan has the unique ability to gather the necessary, and sometimes unexpected elements to create the perfect storm of live play magic. We are very excited to see what he has in store for Final Girl Rising!

I'll be back tomorrow with another update, where we begin to break down the rule system of Final Girl Rising, bit by bit. Until then, thank you for your support and we look forward to sharing the final game with you!

Good morning everyone! As we climb steadily toward our goal, I wanted to highlight another of our talented illustrators for Final Girl Rising.

Though I've known Winston close to 20 years, I haven't had the chance to work with him until this project. A talented illustrator and sequential artist, Winston excels at visual storytelling. He previously illustrated the Law of Distraction, a slice-of-life comic, on Tapas.io and is currently writing and illustrating The Subconscious Eye, which can be found at http://subconsciouseye.com.

You may have recognized this iconic piece of art from the our Kickstarter page and promotional media. It is just a taste of the kind of work we can expect from Winston on Final Girl Rising!

As always, if you'd like to know more about Final Girl Rising, or to back the project on Kickstarter, you can find it here: http://kck.st/48j9bTX

Good morning everyone! We've made some good progress so far and are very close to the halfway mark, when one of our secret stretch goals will be unlocked. Just a few more pledges and we're there, so please continue sharing and talking about Final Girl Rising.

Today, I wanted to spotlight another one of our contributors, Misha Bushyager! Much like Nana Luv, I've had the privilege of working with Misha on multiple projects, and she's my go-to person when I need an editing professional. Misha is is a game designer in her own right, and has created popular titles such as Orun, Lovecraftesque, , Fate of Cthulhu, Misspent Youth: Sell Out With Me, and Masks: Unbound. She's also founder of New Agenda Publishing, and a founding curator of More Seats at the Table, a newsletter highlighting gender marginalized designers.

I am very excited to have the chance to work with Misha again, and you can find out more about her work at blackgirlgameworks.com!

Good morning! Final Girl Rising is nearly a third of the way funded, and I'd like to keep up the momentum by spotlighting one of our contributors, and highlighting our stretch goals.

I've had the pleasure of working with graphic designer and illustrator, Nana Luv, on two previous Drowning Moon Studios projects, Mage to Order and Follow Me Down, and I'm delighted to be working with them again. Nana specializes in character art, and has a clean, bold style that really pops, so I knew they were exactly who I wanted to illustrate the Playbooks for Final Girl Rising. They are multi-talented and host a drawing stream on their Twitch channel, where you can watch them work:

https://www.twitch.tv/nana_luvbug

Hiring Nana to illustrate the game's Playbooks is our first stretch goal at $20,000, and many other stretch goals include incorporating more of their work, as well as additional work by Winston Clark and myself. The art you see on this page is just a sample of what we have in store for you, and I intend for Final Girl Rising to be packed with more art than any other Drowning Moon Studios game. To do that, however, we have to make it across the finish line, so I ask that you please share this campaign wherever you can, and tell people what you love about it.

I am really looking forward to making this game a reality. It feels like the culmination of all the years I've been designing games, but I can't do it without the help of the ttrpg community. Please consider backing Final Girl Rising here: http://kck.st/48j9bTX

Thank you once again for your support, and I'll be back tomorrow with another exciting update!
