From 2026 Wendie Wigginton for Celina City Council
My priority as a Councilmember is to the citizens of Celina first and foremost. This vote was not easy. In 2022 we approved this agreement because at the time this represented money to the school district to help secure future sites and employ amazing teachers to keep Celina at the top of the education list of great cities to live in. I said at the time it was too much density, it put too much traffic on Business 289 which was and is a two lane road. Since that time we have exploded in growth and our infrastructure is feeling the squeeze.
My vote was not a no, it was a Not now! Let us keep working on, and for the record the Celina City staff is doing a tremendous job, finding long term solutions. And once we have that nailed down look and see if what was agreed to in 2022 still makes sense. Development agreements are living breathing documents that developers come in all the time to make changes to for lots of reasons including cost and feasibility. We the city should be able to do the same. And if that involves working with local or state officials I'm committed to that on your behalf every day.
