22 years ago tonight…..
A dude from the hills of Oklahoma drove 3 hours one-way to take this girl who he had only met the week before out on a date.
Because I didn’t have much money, I didn’t have much of a plan until Rachel won concert tickets to see the Hoppers and Kirk Talley in concert that night in Conway (which meant another 40 mins driving away from my starting point). We lived and breathed Southern Gospel music, so this was a great icebreaker date.
On the way back home, we stopped and bought a gas station Mt Dew and then drove down to the pier at Lake Dardanelle State Park and talked forever….
I took the brown-eyed beauty back home that night, and then drove back to Oklahoma. I distinctly remember getting home at 4:00 the next morning, taking a 2 hour nap, and then getting back up to go drive a bus route and work at the school (because it was Friday)….
Happy First Date Day Sparks….. I would do every bit of it all over again. 22 years later, we have been blessed with an amazing family entrusted to us by God (see 2nd picture which is from last Sunday).
22 years later…..It’s Still A God Thing!
