💖 Thinking of my family and friends back home in the Philippines. Please stay safe and take care during these typhoon days. Even from afar, you’re all in my thoughts and prayers. 🌧🙏🇵🇭
This is real, and it's terrifying.
What you're looking at is Severe Tropical Storm Fung-Wong (locally named Uwan in the Philippines), and yes, it really is nearly as massive as the entire country.
It's barreling toward the Philippines right now, and this satellite image shows just how massive it really is. With a diameter of 1,400 kilometers (870 miles), the storm is nearly as wide as the entire country itself.
To put that in perspective: that's roughly the distance from New York City to Miami, or from London to Rome. One storm system covering that much area.
Philippine weather officials are calling it "very intense" and "enormous," and they're not exaggerating. The storm is rapidly intensifying and is forecast to become a super typhoon by Saturday evening or Sunday morning, with maximum sustained winds reaching 220 km/h (137 mph) before making landfall on Northern Luzon early Monday, November 10.
Officials warned: "This is a dangerous weather system because of its wide circulation. We cannot emphasize enough: Now is the time to prepare."
The Philippines sits in the Western Pacific Typhoon Belt, where warm ocean waters and tropical conditions create some of the most powerful storms on Earth. The country faces an average of 20 tropical cyclones per year. Fung-Wong (which will be called Uwan locally) is the 21st tropical cyclone of 2025.
If you're in the affected areas:
Prepare now. Secure your home, stock up on food, water, and medicine for at least 3 days. Charge your devices and have a battery-powered radio. If evacuation orders are issued, leave immediately. Your life matters more than your belongings.
During the storm: stay away from windows, never cross flooded areas, and monitor PAGASA for updates. Check on elderly neighbors who may need help.
For everyone else: reach out to loved ones in the storm's path and only share information from official sources.
Stay safe. 🙏
