DON'T MSS this engaging and funny comedy/drama at the Old Opera House Theatre in Charles Town, opening this Friday. Directed by Glenn Frail and featuring Teri Partain Campbell, Tommy Hegarty, David Lusk, Jeffrey Marcum, Ryan McGaughey, Caitlin Caitlin Lebetz Mitchell, and Mel Powell.

It’s the 1950's, and new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, have been tasked with identifying sexual deviants within their ranks. There’s just one problem: Both Bob and Norma are gay and have married each other’s partners as a carefully constructed cover. Inspired by the true story of the earliest stirrings of the American gay rights movement, madcap classic sitcom-style laughs give way to provocative drama as two “All-American” couples are forced to stare down the closet door.

Monday, July 29 at 6:45pm

The World Premiere of a Jones-Hope-Wooten comedy:

Norleen Sprunt is used to getting her way. No matter how much she has to cajole, wheedle or meddle, Mama knows how to get ‘er done – just ask her grown children, Savannah and Walker. The two of them are just about to get another big dose of Mama’s determination when Walker’s wife unexpectedly goes into labor two thousand miles away in Alabama. Stuck in L.A. because of an Air Traffic Controllers’ strike, Mama leads the charge and wrangles her reluctant children into embarking on what turns out to be a hysterical, out-of-control cross-country road trip. The clock is ticking as she and her quarreling offspring race through some of America’s most unbelievably eccentric and hilarious backroad communities… and heaven help anyone who gets in Mama’s way. Mama WILL get to Birmingham in time for the birth of her first grandchild. UNBROKEN CIRCLE by James Wesley at the Old Opera House in Charles Town. March 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 2019.

The drama Unbroken Circle by James Wesley tells the story of a family dealing with some dark and unsavory issues. The patriarch has just passed away and on a hot Texas afternoon, three generations gather in the family home following the memorial service. Over the next 24 hours, issues that have been buried and kept secret are revealed putting the family in turmoil and their love for one another to the test. Some of the issues are recent, some have been buried for almost a generation, but unless they are exposed and confronted the circle of pain and deception will continue. Unbroken Circle deals with how the distasteful sins of the father can affect generation after generation. While exposing these issues, James Wesley, uses a touch of humor and plenty of love, to keep this family from coming apart at the seams.

As the Old Opera House prepares for the opening of the adult drama UNBROKEN CIRCLE we would like to draw attention to all the good works being done by our friends at the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (formerly the Shenandoah Women's Center.)

After the death of a family's patriarch, several long-hidden and unsavory secrets come to the surface in this drama by James Wesley. The secrets could destroy this Texas family, but their unwavering love for one another binds them together. The Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center works to ensure that the circle is broken and families are not continually subjected to these issues, generation after generation. You can help today by making a donation to the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (see donation button below)

You also do not want to miss UNBROKEN CIRCLE opening March 15.

AUDITIONS for the musical DISASTER!

Sunday, February 10 at 6:00pm
Tuesday, February 12 at 7:00pm

A musical written by Seth Rudetsky & Jack Plotnick
Directed by David Porterfield
Musical Direction by Alison Shafer
Choreographed by Ed Conn

Please prepare an upbeat Broadway-style show tune or pop song from the 1970s to sing. Bring sheet music, an accompanist will be provided and be prepared for a simple dance audition.

Disaster! is a new musical featuring some of the most unforgettable songs of the 1970s! Knock on Wood, Hooked on a Feeling, Sky High, I Am Woman and Hot Stuff are just a few of the hits in this hilarious musical comedy!

It’s 1979, and New York’s hottest A-listers are lining up for the opening of a floating casino and discotheque. Also attending is a faded disco star, a sexy nightclub singer with her eleven-year-old twins, a disaster expert, a feminist reporter, an older couple with a secret, a pair of young guys who are looking for ladies, an untrustworthy businessman, and a nun with a gambling addiction. What begins as a night of boogie fever quickly changes to panic as the ship succumbs to multiple disasters, such as earthquakes, tidal waves, and infernos. Disaster! will have you dancing in your seats and rolling in the aisles!

The script is available to read (at no cost) on the Music Theatre International webpage: https://www.mtishows.com/…/proceed-at-your-own-risk-free-sc…

This musical will be presented on the Old Opera House stage on April 26, 27, 28, May 2, 3, 4, 5, 2019.
