THE SEARCH CONTINUES for a missing 6-year-old boy who was last seen in the waters of the Kanawha River early Saturday morning following a freak accident.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, the child apparently knocked a sport utility vehicle into gear and the vehicle struck his aunt, Katreece Wells, before going into the river. Investigators said Wells, who is from Indiana, was fishing in the area with the boy, who is her nephew. The child is from Dunbar.
Wells was able to rescue the child from the SUV, but both were last seen going under water.
Wells’ body was recovered Saturday.
Lots of family and friends of the victims have come out to the Shawnee boat ramp to support one another as the search for the young boy continues.

🚨 UPDATE: From Corkrean, “Just got an update from the PSD. The state's contractor worked late last night and got the waterline put back together so water service should be restored to most folks now. They are still working on a permanent solution to the slip.” 🚨
HUNDREDS WITHOUT WATER: Roane County Commissioner Andy Corkrean tells me that a water line was damaged along Route 119 near Ambler Ridge Road in Walton leaving 400 homes without water.
Corkrean said this road slip was due to heavy rainfall and road work. He said the Walton PSD is planning to work on a temporary solution, but the WVDOH would have to come up with a permanent solution.
We have reached out to the Walton PSD and the WVDOH and are waiting to hear back. There is no set timeline right now on when water will be restored in this area.

Former Chief of East Bank Fire Department arrested
On Feb. 22, 2022, the former chief of the East Bank Fire Department, Thomas Tucker (43), was arrested for embezzlement. According to Detective Morgan’s criminal complaint, Mr. Tucker is believed to have embezzled funds in excess of $99,000.00 during his service with the department from March 8, 2010, to October 4, 2021.
The investigation began when the East Bank Fire Department was notified by the West Virginia Auditor’s Office that an audit would be conducted on their expenses. Within days of that notice, Mr. Tucker resigned from the position as Fire Chief. The audit revealed numerous expenses which weren’t related to the fire department. For example, engine work for a Dodge Ram truck valued at $990.99 was purchased, but the department doesn’t have a Dodge Ram on the fleet.
Thomas Tucker was arraigned before a Kanawha County Magistrate and released on a $10,000.00 personal recognizance bond.
As is always, Mr. Tucker is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty.
