Starting a new series called “Not for Sale” featuring some of my favorite properties that are off market and not coming back any time soon.

This one has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. Called it the hospital house. A custom build in 1989 (if you can believe it), same owner for 35 years, never once saw the guy.

The home is 8600 square feet (7bed 8bath), made entirely of poured concrete, and built right into the sand at the edge of a national wildlife preserve.

Super Bowl Sunday! Sun is shining out on the Battery, great day to take a walk and a gander at some of the classic historic homes in the Holy City. Any favorites?

Warmer week ahead, allegedly. Hopefully the weather shamans are wrong about the rain.

🌅 Georgetown’s steel mill is currently being demolished— managed to get some footage of it while crews weren’t working. Spotted a sweet 1980s firetruck on the property.

Some history: The mill was opened in 1970 by W***y Korf, it revived a struggling town, employing 1,200 people (12% of locals) at $18/hr (=$150 today), creating union jobs for generations.

But NAFTA ’94 unleashed cheap imports, sparking closures in ’03, ’09, ’15. Unemployment soared to 14.5%, population plunged from 12K to 8K, leaving poverty in its wake.

There are indications in county filings that some “light manufacturing” sites are being included in the redevelopment plan put forward by New Jersey developer Liberty River LLC, while the majority of the space will be mixed use multifamily and retail spaces. While redeveloping this site and others like it may please the eye, raise property values & generate some short term revenues, it signals an ambiguous economic future.
