ICYMI: Buddy Mac Holdings, which as recently as a few months ago was the largest franchisee of Buddy’s Home Furnishings, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas. When it filed for Chapter 11 on Thursday, the company comprised 47 locations in eight states. In April of this year, the store count was 82. The declaration stated that financial distress associated with Franchise Group was among the reasons for the bankruptcy.

The 1.2% gain reported by the Department of Commerce is the lowest percentage monthly year-over-year increase so far this year. Furniture store sales also were among the slowest growing of all sectors tracked by the U.S. government.

Furniture store sales rose again in September, albeit at the slowest pace of the year, according to recently released figures from the Department of Commerce. September sales totaled $11.4 billion, up 1.2% from $11.3 billion in September 2024. They also were up .6% from $11.35 billion in August.
