— A third person is now facing charges in connection with the death of an 18-year-old who was shot and killed in south Charlotte in October, records show.

Maximillian Ruggiero is expected to appear in court Wednesday on first-degree murder and armed robbery charges related to the death of Zachary Evan Rieken, who was found dead inside a car along James Blakeney Avenue on Oct. 26.

Doorbell video obtained by WCNC Charlotte shows the moments a gunman shot into Rieken’s car. Riken can then be seen driving and crashing the car. The shooter and others ran to another car and sped away from the scene. An arrest record from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police alleges that Ruggiero stole approximately $200 worth of ma*****na from Rieken at gunpoint

“His death continues to take my breath away,” Chandra Rieken said during a vigil on Nov. 4. “It hurts so much to know that he is gone.”

Two other teenagers are also facing charges in the case, including a 17-year-old. All three suspects are charged with murder and other charges related to the incident.

A man wanted for the attempted murder of his girlfriend in Belmont has been arrested in Florida.

Investigators have been looking for Elijah Lurry since mid-October. He’s accused of stabbing is girlfriend at a home on East Avenue in Belmont on October 12, 2024.

The Belmont Police Department says law enforcement took Lurry into custody Monday morning in Jacksonville.

He will be extradited to Gaston County to face the following charges:

– Attempted First-Degree Murder
– First-Degree Kidnapping (x2)
– Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury
– Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
– Misdemeanor Domestic Violence
– Misdemeanor Communicating Threats
– Felony Probation Violation

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is investigating the homicide of a man found unresponsive on Thursday in west Charlotte.

The case began as a death investigation but, on Sunday, police announced that this is now a homicide investigation based on a review of evidence

Officers responded to West Boulevard near Ridge Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. for a welfare check on Thursday. Police found 44-year-old Demond Kente Dixon unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Belton Lamont Platt, 38, was identified as a person of interest at the scene, according to CMPD.
Platt is in police custody and facing charges for the suspected homicide.
More details will be released when they are available.

The man accused of robbing and murdering a woman in northeast Charlotte is facing another charge.

Jameisha Wilkes, 33, was found dead at an apartment building on the 5400 block of Strive Street on Nov. 13.

The next day, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police identified the suspect as Dasean Maddox, 32. He was arrested in Cabarrus County and charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Two weeks later, on Nov. 28, police announced they learned Wilkes was pregnant when she was killed. Maddox was then charged with murder of an unborn child.
