Gaston County Police make an arrest involving the exploitation of children.

Tyrus Wright Jr., 23, of Gastonia was arrested on August 15, 2025, by the Gaston County Police F.A.S.T (Fugitive Apprehension Suspect Tracking) team. Wright Jr. has been charged with six counts of Second Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and six counts of Third Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. He is being held in the Gaston County Jail with a $250,000.00 secure bond. Gaston County Police investigators work jointly with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. All of the listed agencies are members of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force. The ICAC task force program helps local and State law enforcement agencies enhance their investigative response to offenders who use the internet, online communication, or other computer technology to sexually exploit children. The investigation focused on the downloading and sharing of digital images. There is no additional information available for release.

A reckless driver has crashed on Leroy Ave. Jump and Run the driver may be armed. Gastonia Police are setting up a perimeter in the area. Please avoid the area while officers respond. K9 on the ground.

GPD recovered a gun as they search the area. K9 is tracking up near New Hope now.

The suspect is wearing pink and white striped pajama pants.

🚨Motor vehicle Incident Involving a Shooting🚨

I-85 southbound at Exit 26 — three lanes are currently closed due to the victim’s vehicle up against the Jersey wall.

The driver reported he had been shot, and State Highway Patrol confirms there are bullet holes in the vehicle.

According to the driver, the shooting occurred on Brookshire Highway in Charlotte before he traveled southbound on I-85.

ARREST: 41-year old Derek Hughes has been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder in connection to the homicide this morning at Stinnett Mobile Home Park we posted about earlier this morning. He is held in the Gaston County Jail with no bond. Once we get more information what led to this incident we will share it.

: We’re being made aware of a homicide investigation in the Stinnett Acres mobile home park just outside of Kings Mountain. Dispatch received a 911 call around 8:30 a.m. Officers located one person dead from injuries sustained from an assault. The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time. There is one person in custody, and there is no danger or threat to the public. We will update this post with information as we get it.

🚨 SHP is currently in pursuit of a dirt bike headed toward Cherryville. Its the same bike they were chasing last night that got away. Use caution in the area. Multiple agencies involved in the chase. 

Pulled into the Dollar General on Dallas Cherryville Highway.
