Welcome July and Happy Birthday to the USA! We are excited to spotlight our interesting and dedicated local historians, librarians and archivists, Sara McKee and Andy Poore, of the Mooresville Public Library. Andy and Sara collect, preserve, and promote our local history in their museum-like archives space in the downtown library and they write our local history column, The Mooresville Minute each month. History buffs are welcome to visit and check out their collections or if you have a piece of local history, you can bring it to them to share and/or conserve.

In this month's issue, we share where to catch the July 4th festivities the rules for our American flag, how to stay safe during summer travel, Disney trip tips, area blueberry farms, what makes an outstand college essay and a delicious summer sangria recipe. Our nonprofit spotlight is on Caterpillar Ministries, a Huntersville organization that provides necessary resources and education programs to low income families.

Doug Lampert of Renewal by Andersen of the Carolinas tells us how energy-efficient windows can help us to beat to heat, Martin Conway of Homewatch CareGivers explains elder abuse and offers tips for protecting our senior neighbors, Janet Martin of Your Personal Best Fitness Studio Mooresville shares the tips for staying strong, quick and independent for older adults, Susan Martin of Lake Norman Power Sports reveals more places to go "Day Trippin' on Your SeaDoo," and Harlan Cato of Beltone Hearing Aid Center (CORNELIUS, NC) shares the history of Beltone.

In the dog days of summer, we are always looking for Cornelius pets to showcase in our Pet Pages, like our July feature Rinmei, the singing Husky! Please send any photos of your pets to Jayne Deku at [email protected]. Also, we are always looking for interesting Cornelius neighbors to showcase in our monthly cover features. If you know residents we should know, send them our way.

For area businesses looking for a positive, community-focused platform to add to your marketing mix, please consider sponsoring our local, positive, family-owned publications. Thank you to all our community business sponsors for helping us to connect and celebrate our community each month. We are excited to welcome Xhale Construction and Sublime Home Improvements to the Lakeside Living family as new community sponsors.

Enjoy the holiday week and stay cool!

With the arrival of June and the beginning of summer, what better way to celebrate the upcoming Father’s Day than by featuring the father-son connection of Charlie and Evan McCord? Charlie, who spent the last 25 years in the landscape business, and Evan, co-founder of TruDream Landscaping, love golfing and any activity involving the lake. Their family wouldn’t be complete without Evan’s partner, Kayla, and Charlie’s other children Emma, Tate, Will and Whit. You can read their entire story in this month’s issue.

Our community experts are also here to share their niche insights on an array of topics. Eddie Tarantino Jr. of Tarantino Law, PLLC shares how to navigate transferring real property to heirs when a loved one passes away without a will; Annie Hanson of The Closet Niche suggests the perfect Father’s Day gift—a customized closet; Evan McCord of TruDream Landscaping explains the importance of irrigation maintenance programs and Heather Linen of Whole Pet Davidson shares what to do in different pet emergencies.

Our June issue is also full of all things summer—learn about the biggest college essay mistakes for rising high school seniors writing their personal statements over the summer and read about a great summer spot at Cinergy Dine-In Theater. Find some great tips for strawberry picking and read about the importance of pursuing our dreams and see the Town of Mooresville’s new Strategic Plan. Learn how to Dream On with Hope Andersen and all about the History and Archive Department at the Mooresville Public Library with our favorite local historian, Andy Poore.

We are so thankful for our business sponsors for supporting our Cornelius community magazine and helping us to educate and connect neighbors and to mail for free to tens of thousands of neighbors in our LKN towns.

We hope your June is full of sunshine and fun as you enjoy the warm weather.

As we welcome April and the spring, we are excited to share the Muesing family's story with our neighbors. John, a retired pilot, and Lisa, a realtor, live in the Tuskarora area off Brawley School Road. Their daughter Ashley and her husband, Brian, own Mosquito Shield of Mooresville and are welcoming their first child in May. John, Jr., Tyler, Megan, and Preston round out the family. Read their story in this month's issue.

Our April edition is packed with information on fun places to visit, state festivals and local events to attend, from the Azalea Festival in Wilmington to a trip to Kannapolis. Get our Hometown Hero updates from our veteran reporter Rob Cannon, learn about Eastern Heights from Andy Poore (archivist at the Mooresville Public Library), get schooled on the ACT and SAT, and get updates on the Hurricane Helene clean up from Captain John Johnson of the LKN Marine Commission. Don't forget our furry neighbors on the pet page. Our Lakeside Giving nonprofit spotlight is on Gisele’s World , an organization that creates events for children with autism.

Our community experts help educate on a variety of topics. Martin Conway of Homewatch CareGivers helps us identify instances when you want to consider in-home care for you loved ones, Doug Lampert of Renewal by Andersen of the Carolinas explains the benefits of energy-efficient windows, Harlan Cato of Beltone Hearing Aid Center shares how hearing loss is linked to Alzheimer's Disease, Susan Newsom of Lake Norman Power Sports gives us part 1 of how to go "Day Trippin on Your Sea-Doo," and Janet Martin of Your Personal Best Fitness Studio Mooresville illustrates the effectiveness of data-driven fitness coaching. Our Business Sponsor Spotlight is on Aurora Art & Garden Gallery, a beautiful gallery and garden in Troutman offering original paintings, plants and unique gifts.

Thank you to all of our local business sponsors for helping to celebrate and connect our community each month. We are excited to welcome Affordable Choice Painting, LLC, G. Fuller Photography, and Dan Feyka, CPA, to the Lakeside Living family.

We are putting out the call now to round up amazing students to highlight in our August Back to School issue and always looking to showcase interesting neighbors, our neighborhood pets, your favorite recipes, people and organizations that give back and pay it forward, and positive community stories. Please reach out to Joanie Baker or Jayne Deku with any suggestions! [email protected] and [email protected].

Happy February and Happy Groundhog's Day. Unfortunately, Phil saw his shadow, but we all know dreary weather is a Northern thing and that's why many of us migrated here. We shall look forward to sunshine and 60s & 70s this month! We also look forward to sharing our featured Mooresville neighbors, the Newmans, with you. Keren and Brian are active in our community and own the highly-rated local roofing business, Eastern Roof Technologies.

Also in this issue, our resident historian, Andy Poore, shares the story of Dorothy Brown, Jameka Haynes helps us celebrate Black History Month, and we honor Firefighter of the Year, James Rogers, in our Hometown Heroes feature. Our resident fishing expert, Jake Bussolini, helps you find where the fish are hiding this winter and our student reporter, Tessa Rosenberg, shares her adventures on Kiawah Island, S.C. Dr. Nick Wentworth of Calm Waters Dentistry educates us on improving your smile, Doug Vidler of Christian Brothers Automotive helps us decide whether to buy new or keep our current vehicles, Bryan Peace of Peace Heating And Air Conditioning shares his company values and benefits, and Cyndi Osterhus of Osterhus Outdoors Fiberglass Pools explains how to turn your backyard into an oasis by adding a pool. Our nonprofit spotlight is on HopeWay, a mental health resource for teens and adults, and our sponsor spotlight is on Clark Hall Doors & Windows.

Be sure to check out the February events and our neighborhood pets and send us your pets to feature in an upcoming issue. We are always looking for interesting neighbors to feature, local nonprofits to spotlight, and highly-rated, local businesses as publication partners. We are excited to welcome Homewatch CareGivers, Brighter Smiles, and Andrews Lawn & Landscape to the Lakeside Living family. Our sponsors help us to connect and celebrate our neighbors each month and mail for FREE to hundreds of local communities, so be sure to consider them when you are looking for local products and services. When you support local businesses, most of that money goes back into the local economy.

Here's to 6 more weeks of mild winter and loads of sunshine!
