Cornelius teen Henry Siler isn’t waiting until after graduation to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams.

The Hough High School (.a.houghhighschool) student has turned his interest in vintage clothing into a growing online business, sourcing distinctive pieces from thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets and rag houses—and handling everything from research and photography to customer service and shipping.

His inventory has included a pair of 1960s redline Levi’s valued at more than $500!

For the young musicians of the North Carolina Youth Orchestra (), learning to play an instrument is only the beginning.

Through rehearsals, performances and educational programs, students also build confidence, discipline, leadership skills and a sense of belonging.

What began as a small community music program in Cornelius now serves more than 230 students—and continues working to make music education accessible as arts programs disappear from many schools.

Say less.

This Mediterranean roasted shrimp with broccoli and cauliflower gets plenty of flavor from garlic, shallots, Parmesan, Kalamata olives, lemon and toasted pine nuts.
It’s healthy, easy enough for a busy weeknight and doesn’t leave the kitchen looking like you’ve been cooking for three days. That last part may be the real selling point.

At 50, Bobby Conway () decided he needed a hobby.

So, he tried drawing a portrait. His review of that first attempt (see below)? “Horrific.” 😂

But he kept going.

Today, the Huntersville resident creates hyperrealistic charcoal portraits that could easily be mistaken for photographs. And while his talent is remarkable, my favorite part of Bobby’s story is his willingness to show the mistakes, frustrating moments and less-than-perfect beginnings along with the finished work.

Because none of us begins as an expert.

If you’ve ever convinced yourself that you’re too old to try something new, you need to read this one.

Sixteen years later, Cheer Elite Allstars () has earned 465 regional titles, 304 state titles and 107 national titles—and now has a second location in Huntersville.

Those numbers are impressive. But they aren’t what Hallie leads with.
For her, it has always been about the athletes, their families and the coaches who care about who those athletes are as people—not just what they can do on the mat.

For our September Health & Wellness feature, Allison Futterman spoke with local practitioners Dean Quick, MT-BC, FAMI, of Sound Space Collective and Ashley Dail, LCMHC, of Move Talk Zen about how they help clients explore difficult thoughts and emotions in ways that go beyond traditional talk therapy.

It’s a fascinating look at the many forms healing can take—and a reminder that there isn’t one “right” way to care for our mental health.
