On Nov. 10th, 1973, Earl Owensby (EO) launched an independent movie studio in between Shelby and Boiling Springs, NC. His first film, Challenge, was the first of many to come out of this rural community that is over 2,300 miles from Hollywood.

In March of 1993, Noel T. Manning II had the opportunity to meet Owensby for the first time while covering a story for CNN Headline News affiliate, Shelby Headline News (TV 33). The two developed a longtime friendship that has exceeded three+ decades. This video is a featured selection of a three-part segment that aired during that time.

Here, Owensby talks about his first film, the international film market, and why he chose North Carolina to make movies.
