Sadly, this is now official.
Andy Williams—known to wrestling fans as The Butcher—has passed away at only 48 years old.
For readers who followed our updates throughout the night, several directly conflicting reports circulated after Andy’s medical emergency. Enjoy Wrestling publicly denied an early report that he had passed away, and at that time there was no confirmation from his family or an official authority.
Out of respect for Andy and everyone close to him, we would not report his passing as fact until reliable confirmation became available.
That confirmation has now come.
TMZ is reporting that the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed Andy Williams’ death following the medical emergency he suffered at Enjoy Wrestling’s event in Millvale, Pennsylvania.
Andy collapsed at the conclusion of his tag team match alongside The Blade. Doctors at the event immediately administered CPR until an ambulance arrived, and the remainder of the show was canceled.
No official cause of death has been announced, and we will not speculate.
We desperately wish this update were different.
Andy built remarkable careers in two demanding worlds. Music fans knew him as the longtime guitarist for Every Time I Die. Wrestling fans knew the imposing, unmistakable Butcher—the man who stood beside The Blade and turned a dream of professional wrestling into a nationally televised career with AEW.
Last night, we asked our readers to pray for Andy. This morning, we ask you to direct those prayers toward his family, The Blade, his friends, his brothers in music and wrestling, and everyone whose life he touched.
Coming on the same morning as the passing of “Superstar” Bill Dundee, this is an almost unimaginable day of loss for the wrestling world.
