A Light Rail Driver Told Scared Passengers to "Relax!" . . . After Falling Asleep and Nearly Crashing
There's so much unnecessary stress in TRANSPORTATION . . . simply going from Point A to Point B. Light rail SEEMS like it'd be smoother than driving, flying, bike riding, and even walking in some areas . . . but not always.
A video has just been released from an incident that happened on September 24th in San Francisco, where a light rail train FLEW into a curve at a high-speed and severely jolted passengers.
It was going around 50 miles per hour, which is WAY higher than the average speed of 8 to 10 miles per hour.
The operator had apparently dozed off.
In the video, you can see the driver slumped over, before being shaken awake during the rough turn.
The driver managed to regain control, and slowed the train to a stop. The passengers were shrieking and screaming . . . so the driver opened the door to the first car, and said, quote, "I'm sorry. Relax, relax, relax . . . We didn't crash. Relax." The train did not derail . . . but passengers thought it might.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, and most passengers were okay, with just minor bumps or bruises. But at least one person claims they slammed their head and they were treated for a concussion.
There was an investigation, and officials confirmed that the cause was, quote, "operator fatigue." They also said the operator has been placed on "non-driving status."
They said safety is a priority . . . they're committed to accountability . . . and they're "reinforcing existing training on the importance of watching for signs of fatigue and reporting it appropriately."
