Grain Gravy is something I’ve been making and using in my own shop for quite a while, and I’m excited to finally introduce it.

Grain Gravy is a two part woodworking finish I developed for the projects I build at Wyoming Workshop. Part 1 builds a durable protective base using polyurethane, finishing oil, and turpentine. Part 2 adds a smooth final coat made from beeswax, finishing oil, and turpentine that leaves the wood with a soft satin sheen.

It is easy to apply, very forgiving, and produces a finish that both protects and highlights the natural beauty of the wood.

This is the same finish I use on many of the projects I build.

Grain Gravy is a two part woodworking finish that I personally make and use on the majority of projects that leave my shop. It is simple to apply, highly forgiving, and designed to bring out the natural beauty of wood while providing durable protection. This finish is built around a straightforward

Stop Overthinking Wood Species

As woodworkers, we often put too much emphasis on using the perfect species for every project. Most people simply respond to how a finished piece looks and functions rather than what kind of wood was used. Knowing when wood choice truly matters and when a smart, affordable alternative makes more sen

Refinishing furniture is one of my favorite ways to bring new life into pieces that matter. This 100 year old vanity was recently restored for the sweetest almost-nine-year-old girl, and it now looks ready for its next chapter. Years of wear were cleaned up, blemishes repaired, and a durable finish applied that highlights the original charm while making it ready for daily use again.

Wyoming Workshop offers refinishing services for heirlooms, family pieces, and furniture that deserves more than being sent off to donation or storage. If you have a treasured item that could use expert restoration, feel free to reach out. I would be happy to take a look and discuss options.

Most woodworking projects look rough until the final moments. The secret to professional results is surface prep, the overlooked skill that controls clarity, color, and finish quality more than any other step.

Cold winter air pulls moisture out of wood faster than most newcomers realize. Panels that sat flat in summer can suddenly cup, warp, or shrink once the humidity drops. Understanding why this happens and how to control it will save frustration and make your projects more predictable all year long.

Pulled the mirror off a nearly 100 year old vanity and found something incredible tucked behind it. A newspaper dated February 20, 1931, used as the mirror backing. Seeing the grocery prices printed on that page really puts time into perspective. Moments like this are a reminder that every old piece carries a story, and sometimes it is literally hidden just beneath the surface. If you have a treasured heirloom that deserves careful, respectful refinishing, feel free to reach out. I would be glad to talk about a custom commission.
