For most of my life I didnt feel like you were my dad. One night I was woken up, told to say goodbye to my siblings, and just like that you were out of my life. Every now and again you would call and it felt like it only brought more problems. As I was reaching adolescence I found myself becoming increasingly angry at you. Why are you talking to me about money? What happened to my family?
I found it easier to blame you and dubbed you the villain. So for most of my life thats what you were. But at my core I felt like I didnt hear the full story. I heard a voice in the back of my mind get louder when asking "If he goes tomorrow, would you feel content with what you know?"
"No..."
And 23 years later there you were again. You looked me in my eyes and asked me to forgive you for the pain that you had caused me. You took responsibility for the role you played in our separation, and suddenly I had a dad again.
But the voice I heard earlier got louder for a reason, and I hate that my gut was right. Now less than 2 years later you're gone again.
There were so many more conversations I wanted to have. But then again, at my core I feel like we had the most important one, and with that I can let go. Our next conversation will be a good one. Until next time, pa.
