We need your help to make this film.
We explore 60 years of history of mixed race Japanese since the end of WWII. We meet a young Afro-Japanese woman who has been on a journey to discover her identity and befriends the stars of the 1959 film, Kiku and Isamu.

Thanks to everyone who have followed our page. We invited you here not to just look, but to participate with us in the making of this film. We need your donations. We’re asking for money for a December 7 and January, 2025 shoot.

In 2021, we went looking for the 1959 film Kiku And Isamu by Japanese director Tadashi Imai.
We screened the film at Chicago Filmmakers.

Deborah DeSnoo, co-producer on another project we are developing, a documentary on African Warrior/Samurai Yasuke, knew the lead actress from the film.

A 30 year resident of Tokyo, she was very involved in the theater and film industry. I met her with St Clair Bourne at a producers meeting in Los Angeles in 2008. She has just co-directed a PBS doc, Japan Memoirs of A Secret Empire.

I really wanted to screen this film at Chicago filmmakers, we located a subtitled digital print and tried to hunt down the distributors. Before that, Deborah had located in of the stars of the film, Takahashi Emi, who still performs amazing concerts. She appeared at the screening with Debra, via zoom.

The idea for the documentary was born at that screening, June 11, 2022.

Our first shoot was at Setsubun, Fri, Feb 3, 2023. By then we were able to locate the co-star George Okunoyama, and away we went.

We're $5 away from shooting the first $1000 of the $8000 we need in Tokyo in December and January. We contacted a crew in Tokyo, and the director is there; check out our trailer for the beautiful footage. I'm shooting a documentary on Black Photojournalists here in Chicago and producing remotely with the crew and subjects there.

Anyone want to get us over this first hump?

I need your support to help build a platform of authentic, original content for now and the future on Blacknuss.tv. Kiku's Legacy is a project I started three years ago with two Japanese producers, Yuki Solomon and Ark Miura, and Tokyo resident producer/director Deborah DeSnoo. You should check it out?

I'll post the trailers here. It's a unique and essential story. The story of how the film started is crazy, but so are all film stories. Come join us. We will hold a fundraising event at Colvin House, 5940 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60660, on Sunday, December 1st, from 3 to 6 p.m.
