Baking Soda and Vinegar Fireworks

Materials Needed (Enough for multiple mini "fireworks"):

- Baking soda (1–2 cups)

- White vinegar (1–2 cups)

- Liquid watercolors or food coloring (red, blue, yellow, etc.)

- Pipettes, droppers, or small spoons

- Muffin tin, plastic tray, or baking sheet

- Optional: black construction paper (for firework-style paper fizz art)

- Optional: glitter or biodegradable confetti

---

Directions:

1. Set the Stage:

Sprinkle a generous layer of baking soda across a tray or into muffin tin wells.

If doing fireworks on paper, place black construction paper in a tray and cover lightly with baking soda.

2. Color the Vinegar:

Divide vinegar into small cups and mix with different food coloring or liquid watercolors to create vibrant "firework fuel."

3. Fireworks Time!

Use pipettes or droppers to sq**rt the colored vinegar onto the baking soda.

Watch the colorful fizzing explosions bubble and foam like mini fireworks!

Keep adding drops in different colors and spots for layered firework effects.

4. Optional Effects:

Sprinkle with glitter or star confetti during the fizz for extra sparkle.

For art, let the paper dry after the reaction for a firework splatter painting!

Fireworks Straw Painting
Ingredients:
- White cardstock or thick paper
- Liquid watercolors or watered-down tempera/acrylic paint (red, blue, yellow, purple, etc.)
- Drinking straws (1 per child)
- Optional: glitter, star stickers, or metallic paint pens
- Paint droppers, small spoons, or pipettes
- Table covering, smocks, or old t-shirts

Directions:
1. Prep Your Paint: Thin your paints with a few drops of water until they’re runny enough to spread with air. Pour each color into a small cup or palette.
2. Start the Fireworks: Use a dropper or spoon to place a small puddle of paint in the center of your paper. Using a straw, gently blow air outward from the center of the paint blob. Watch the paint spread like firework bursts!
3. Add More Colors: Repeat the process with different colors and new puddles. You can overlap them or space them out for variety in your artwork.
4. Decorate the Fireworks (Optional): While the paint is still wet, sprinkle glitter for a sparkling effect. You can also add star stickers, firework words, or paint flicks with a toothbrush for extra flair!
5. Let It Dry & Display: Allow your artworks to dry completely. These bold creations make perfect holiday decorations, classroom bulletin board displays, or unique greeting cards.

Tips & Variations:
- Experiment with different straw sizes: Using wider straws can create larger paint bursts, while narrower ones will give you more control over the paint.
- Try adding a splash of water to your palette before you start if you want softer, more blended colors in your fireworks display.

Salt & Glue Fireworks Painting

Ingredients:

- 4 sheets heavy black construction paper (9 × 12 in)
- 1 cup white school glue in a squeeze bottle
- 1 cup table salt (fine grain coats best)
- ½ cup liquid watercolors or food coloring diluted 1 : 1 with water, assorted colors
- 4 small paintbrushes or pipettes (one per color)
- 1 tsp edible glitter or silver luster dust (optional sparkle)
- Plastic tray or rimmed baking sheet to catch excess salt
- Paper towels and smocks for easy cleanup

Directions:

1. Lay a construction-paper sheet on the tray. With glue bottle, draw radiating firework lines and star-bursts—make the glue lines thick so they hold plenty of salt.
2. Immediately sprinkle salt over all wet glue until fully coated. Gently tilt and tap the paper so extra salt shakes off into the tray; reuse for the next sheet.
3. Optional sparkle: dust a pinch of edible glitter across the salted lines for metallic twinkle. Let the glue set 5 min so salt crusts but remains damp.
4. Load a brush or pipette with colored watercolor. Lightly touch the tip to a salted line and watch the hue wick along the path. Repeat with different colors until each firework glows.
5. Lay paintings flat to dry 4 hrs. Once dry, excess salt may flake; gently tap to remove loose grains and reveal crisp raised artwork.
