Are you upset about the parking ordinance enforcement in New Buffalo?
My name is Nick Holevas and I am a citizen of New Buffalo. I urge my fellow citizens to attend tomorrow night's meeting at
New Buffalo City Hall

We need to discuss changing the parking ordinances which had never been enforced before, which is clearly a tactic by this city council to get rid of as many second home owners and eliminate vacation rentals, because they do not appreciate the money the people of Illinois (majority are Chicago metro residents) bring into this town.
I hope to see you all there. I looks forward to meeting my neighbors and get more familiar with my community!
This council doesn’t like the fact second homeowners pay nearly double the property taxes than the locals, which fund local schools. Keep in mind there were only 42 graduates from New Buffalo High School last year which is in a multimillion dollar facility paid for in part by the property taxes the second homeowners pay.
They don't like the fact property values have increased, which is beneficial for themselves as well, if they chose to sell. They blame vacation rentals (about 7% of the homes) as the big catalyst for the home price increases. They obviously don't listen to or read the news, because the entire US is experiencing this home price boom.
They are constantly selling the "false narrative" that they can make New Buffalo a 12-month economy. My guess is they are blind to the fact that Lake Michigan is to the north of them, which is the tourism industry.
They don't understand the reason people come here is to go to the beach, get away from their daily lives, and have some fun.
They don't like vacation rental owners, as they literally have described those homeowners as human traffickers. Keep in mind these traffickers bring humans to spend money at all the restaurants and breweries, pay all the beach fees, and shop at local souvenir shops.
Thank you. I hope to meet many of you there.
