The Warsaw Uprising began on August 1, 1944, when Polish resistance forces launched an attempt to liberate Warsaw from German occupation.

The uprising involved not only armed resistance fighters but also a civilian population caught inside a rapidly deteriorating battlefield.

People carried food, water and medical supplies while fighting continued through streets and damaged buildings.

The city suffered enormous destruction during the fighting, and the uprising ultimately ended after weeks of resistance.

The Warsaw Uprising remains one of the most significant episodes of the Polish resistance during World War II and a powerful reminder of the human cost of occupation and urban warfare.

The M36 Jackson was developed to give American forces greater anti-tank firepower during the later years of World War II.

Its powerful 90mm gun could engage heavily armored German vehicles at useful combat ranges. The open-topped turret also gave the crew good visibility, although it provided less protection from above.

M36s were used in Europe as Allied forces pushed deeper into German-held territory.

The vehicle is an important example of how American tank-destroyer designs evolved as German armored threats became more serious.
