Avery is best known for her performance as Shug Avery in the 1985 period drama film The Color Purple, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. She continued appearing in films including Blueberry Hill, White Man's Burden,
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins,
Meet the Browns, and
Proud Mary. From 2013 to 2019, Avery starred as Helen Patterson, lead character's mother, in the BET drama series Being Mary Jane.

Morrison, who was born on Feb. 18, 1931, released her novel, Beloved, in 1987. Based on the true story of a Black enslaved woman., the book was a Bestseller for 25 weeks and won countless awards including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

Morrison became the first Black woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993. Morrison died on Aug. 5, 2019.

Cassi Davis Patton was born on July 31, 1964 in Holly Springs, Mississippi.

Cassi is an accomplished actor in television, film, and theatre. Her television credits include: Tyler Perry’s award-winning series House of Payne and her new TV show – The Paynes. Her additional television credits include Living Single, Chicago Hope and of course the “Hud Woman” in the claymation show The PJ’s with Eddie Murphy. She has worked extensively over the years with Tyler Perry on his stage plays, and movie projects. Her film credits include: School Daze, Boycott, Daddy’s Little Girls, Madea’s Big Happy Family, Boo! A Madea Halloween, and Boo 2! A Madea Halloween. Her theatre credits include: Barefoot In The Park, Madea Goes To Jail, What’s Done In The Dark, Aunt Bam’s Place, Madea’s Neighbors From Hell, Madea On The Run and finally Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Tour.
