Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said Thursday his agency will acquire a helicopter to track High speeders, carjackers, look for missing people and offer aid during large-scale emergencies.
The Cook County Board approved $11.4 million
Thursday in next year's budget to get one, according to Dart, who said the money was carried over from funds that weren't spent in the 2022 budget.
The Police Department owns two Bell helicopters, one built in 1994, the other in 2006. But the helicopters, which it shares with the sheriff's office, often are grounded for maintenance problems and don't have the navigation equipment to fly in poor weather.
Other cities have larger police fleets. The Police Department has 17 helicopters.
The Police Department has nine, including two new ones.

Rapper arrested in Las Vegas on attempted murder charge.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas Metro police arrested Los Angeles-based rapper Blueface on Tuesday on charges including attempted murder in connection to an early October shooting.

Officers arrested Johnathan Porter, 25, also known as Blueface, around 2:40 p.m. outside of a business in the 300 block of Hughes Center Drive, police said.

Porter was arrested on charges relating to an Oct. 8 shooting in the 6300 block of Windy Road near Las Vegas Boulevard and Sunset Road, police said.

Porter was booked into the CCDC on warrants for attempted murder with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm at/into an occupied structure.

Porter is said to appear in court on Wednesday at 8 a.m.
