For centuries, Black women have been the architects of change, the movers of mountains and the builders of wealth, even when the world told us we couldn’t.

From Madam C.J. Walker, the first self-made woman millionaire, to Dr. Gladys West, whose mathematical genius led to GPS, to the countless Black women today shaping industries, leading boardrooms, and owning their power, we have never waited for permission.

I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me, and I move with the responsibility to pave the way for those coming next. As a Black woman in real estate, leadership, and community development, I know that ownership is power. Wealth is power. Knowledge is power. And when we have all three—we shift the future.

This Women’s History Month, I honor every Black woman who dared to dream, build, and disrupt. I honor those who pushed through closed doors and created their own tables. I honor those who lifted as they climbed.

Stepping into the role of President of the Dearborn Realtist Board 18 months ago, I felt an immense weight on my shoulders. Yet, what I’ve come to realize is that God adds this weight to elevate us. The responsibility of leadership, the pioneering spirit required in this role, and the uncertainties that accompany it are all part of a grander plan.

This weight is not a burden; it’s preparation for the journey that lies ahead.

As someone who travels frequently, I’ve developed a fascination with aircraft. I’ve noticed that the longer the flight, the larger and heavier the plane must be. This analogy resonates deeply with my experience. Just as planes are designed to carry greater weight for longer journeys, I am growing stronger and more capable in my leadership role to handle more weight.

I am truly grateful for this honor. The challenges I’ve faced have shaped me, and I continue to embrace the weight that God has entrusted to me.
