Join us this August for Reimagining Faith Withing + Beyond the Church —a free, in-person event from Project (De)Construction.

We’ll be joined by a panel of BIPOC + Q***r women—mental health and human service professionals with their own complex relationships to religion. Some have left the church and organized religion, others are deconstructing, and some are forging new spiritual paths. Whether you’re spiritual, secular, devout, deconstructing, or somewhere in between—you are invited.

The event is free to attend. Donations are appreciated and help us keep this work going. Project (De)Construction is fully self-funded by Pour Into It Media. Because we center the voices often left out of traditional religious spaces, we’re often turned away from mainstream funding. Your support helps keep these spaces open and accessible.

Grab your tickets here! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1373762313059?aff=oddtdtcreator

It’s finally happening… our first in-person event is coming up this summer!

Reimagining Faith Within & Beyond the Church is a live panel + community convo about what it means to question, reclaim, or let go of religious institutions—especially for women, BIPOC folks, q***r folks, and anyone who’s been told they don’t belong in spiritual spaces. We’ve got something to say about church—and we know you do too 👀

We’re hosting it right on the South Side at The Center on Cottage Grove, and we can’t wait to have this conversation in person.

This is personal. This is healing. This is necessary.

✨ Season Two of Project (De)Construction is coming—just in time for the event—with more conversations about our spiritual journeys, church hurt, and the complexity of deconstruction. We’ll also be pulling in themes from Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler.

We’re building a free resource guide for attendees with tools that center BIPOC + q***r folks around health, mental wellness, and spiritual care.

If you’re a sponsor, org, or business who wants to support, email us or send a DM: [email protected]

In the meantime, help us spread the word by sharing the flyer, following us on social media, and subscribing to our YouTube channel.

This will be a longer video in at some point but this has been in my spirit heavy and I wanted to share. To the women who talk openly and transparently about their journey, thank you.

Last month I had the privilege of seeing and hearing Unfit Christian at last night. Did D. Danyelle come for Chicago? Yes. Did Chicago disrespect with the weather? Absolutely. Embarrassed us in front of company actually.

When I left the church and started deconstructing, Unfit Christian was one of the first folks I followed. When I created Project (De)construction she was on the vision board.

It feels good to exist in spaces with folks who share similar church experiences. It feels good to ponder what texts I hold as scared. It feels good to just sit in a room of Black folks and talk about Black books, Black bodies, Black Women, and Black experiences.

Here’s to cultivating safer spiritual spaces 💛

Most grateful for the opportunity to learn from folks throughout the recording the second season of Project (De) construction.

Did anyone else know that the Chronicles of Narnia was one huge allegory for the story of Jesus?

Also, did anyone else grow up in a super religious household where certain things to watch were off limits?

🌟 Welcome to Octavia E. Butler Season! 🌟

In this video, I dive deep into Parable of the Sower, one of my favorite novels by the visionary Octavia E. Butler. Exploring the first five chapters, I reflect on how Lauren Olamina’s journey aligns with my own deconstruction journey and how Robledo reminds me of my church home. This story of survival, faith, and questioning speaks volumes about community and identity, especially for those of us exploring the intersections of faith and self-discovery.

For fans of Octavia E. Butler and anyone curious about Black church culture, religion, and how these shape our relationship with ourselves and the world, this one’s for you.
