If you’re looking for a movie to take the family to see, “Sarah’s Oil” is a great option. It deals with faith and hope in the face of racist adversity and greed. Check out my interview with actor Kenric Green (The Walking Dead, Star Trek Discovery). He talks about how his faith informed the way he approached this role.

Also, it baffles me that I was never taught about Sarah Rector. She was a Black girl that grew up in the Jim Crow Era and was 11 years old when it was discovered that her land sat on an oil reservoir. You can guess what happens next. When vultures swoop in, Sarah’s faith kicks in.

You may already know that I am deeply invested in Tolkien's Middle Earth and the Lord of the Rings mythology. You may also be aware that I occasionally write for a website called Think Christian that challenges us to think biblically about art and culture. Well, I once again was able to marry the two and reflect on The Rings of Power. I would be overjoyed if you took a few minutes to read my article connecting the character of Tom Bombadil to the biblical figure Melchizedek.

Like the mysterious Melchizedek of the Bible, Tom drops into The Rings of Power to remind us that not all who wander are lost.

Batman has always been my favorite comic book hero because he needs no extended universe. Gotham is ripe with characters, villains, and history. In this piece on Prime's new Batman: Caped Crusader, my guy Emanuel Padilla articulates the complexities of Gotham's brokenness with an eloquence that leaves you desiring to dig deeper both into Batman lore and the idea of the Korean word "han", "the critical wound of the heart generated by unjust psychosomatic repression, as well as by social, political, economic, and cultural oppression." Notions of ‘han’ and ‘jeong’ — which reflect Christian ideas of woundedness and reconciliation — drive the Batman animated series.
