Dr. Sherrod wants to celebrate leadership with DePaul University Future Real-estate Management leader Alice Carrera who is a junior. Alice met her at the SHINE Powerful Women panel discussion in downtown Chicago last month. She reached out & asked Dr. Sherrod for a one-on-one. We are celebrating this month's Starbucks Leadership Chat.

We appreciate Alice for taking the time to be bold enough to advance her self-development and seek advice on leadership tips that can help her soar as the new President of Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority, Inc. 🩷💜 Gamma Alpha Chapter and throughout life; she left with lots of notes and homework for the next 90 days with check in dates with Dr. Sherrod.

Thank you, Alice, for giving back to the community, being positive in your platforms, raising the bar on customer service, seeking life coaches throughout your collegiate journey to prepare yourself, choosing internships that promote growth, and reaching out to Dr. Sherrod for guidance. It takes a true leader to take these steps, and we hope this empowers other youth to soar.

When Dr. Sherrod asked Alice why she chose her to seek leadership advice, the biggest compliment that she shared was how impressed she was by her confidence. It was something Alice noticed & admired out of a room full of women.

DR. JARMESE SHERROD is the President/CEO and founder of Sherrod's Independent Mentoring Program (S.I.M.P.) and SheWill Legacy NFP. She specializes in youth development and women’s empowerment. Her 22 years as an English/ Communications/Media Professor helped empower students to lead and soar from many states and countries. Her legacy impact can be found in Macon and Cook County, Haiti, Germany, South Africa, and Puerto Rico, and each year she adds another country to start a selfless service project.

One of her most recent proudest moments is when Governor Pritzker announced her leadership, service, and philanthropy Youth Program as #1 in the State of Illinois for the 2020-2021 Governor’s Hometown Awards. Over 100 Macon County high school students (10-12th grade) in 12 school districts and home school students participated (sponsored by a local foundation). She also loved receiving a Partnership of the Year award in 2023 from the Boys & Girls Club of Decatur, Inc. She was also awarded a Humanitarianism Award from the American Red Cross of Illinois on 2/14/24.

Dr. Sherrod leads by serving on boards for the SheWill Legacy, American Red Cross (International Team), Chicago Youth Centers, and the NAACP Southside Branch. She served as the Co-Chair of the Faculty Advisory Board to help make change for students who attend Illinois institutions of higher learning in three areas: Institutional Support, Professional Development, and Pedagogy and Support. She also empowers students to earn doctorate degrees, sits on doctoral, and leads women empowerment programs in the Decatur Correctional Center and Cook County Correctional Center for Women.

She led the Leadership Training Institute for 4 years for up to 7,000 women in 5 states as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Central Region. Her impact has inspired thousands of children, youth, and adults worldwide. In the past 3 years, her organization has impacted over 20,000 in impact and secured over 400 volunteers. Her organization awards volunteers for serving through the Presidential Service Volunteer Awards through AmeriCorps.
